Responsibilities:
PURPOSE OF THE POST
- Ensuring that the people of Gwynedd are central to everything we do.
- Provide the Council with a legal service that enables it to work effectively for the benefit of the people of Gwynedd
MAIN DUTIES
- Advise Council departments and other clients on legal matters within specific areas
- Attending and advising Council committees as required on matters arising from the specific areas of work of the office holder
- Represent the Council and other clients in courts, tribunals, investigations and other formal hearings, as required and within specific areas
- Dealing with legal work arising from specific areas
- Assist from time to time on demand with the work of other members of the legal unit
- Undertake any other reasonable duties entrusted to the office holder from time to time by the Legal Services Manager
Specific Areas
- The specific areas of work may vary from time to time. They currently include the following:
- Deal with employment matters including Employment tribunal claims; Grievances andDiscipline issues and complaints; Discrimination; Dismissals; Redundancy and restructuring; Contracts of employment; TUPE transfers; Whistleblowing; Settlement agreements
- Handling litigious matters including: Progression of various cases up to trial or hearing in various areas including contractual disputes, housing and property matters, education and licensing matters;
- Deals with legal matters arising from general prosecutions by the Authority in various areas including Environment, Education, Health and Safety.
- Advise on litigation matters as necessary.
General Duties
- Responsibility for self-development.
- Ensure compliance with Health and Safety rules in the workplace in accordance with the responsibilities noted in the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Council’s Health and Safety Policy.
- Operate within the Council’s policies in relation to equal opportunities and equality.
- Responsible for managing information in accordance with the Council’s information management guidelines. Ensure that personal information is treated in accordance with Data Protection legislation.
- Commitment to reducing the Council’s carbon emissions in accordance with the Carbon Management Plan, and to encourage others to act positively towards reducing the Council’s Carbon Footprint.
- Undertake any other reasonable duty which corresponds to the salary level and responsibility level of the job.
- Responsibility to report any concern or suspicion that a child or vulnerable adult is being abused.
