Description:

Baan Lao Fine Thai Cuisine is seeking a personable, skilled and knowledgeable ‘Fine Dining’ WINE SOMMELIER and SERVER.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Serve as a brand ambassador for Baan Lao, committed to providing an exceptional customer experience.
  • Create a pleasant, welcoming, and respectful environment for all guests.
  • Ensure efficient and personalized customer service by engaging with customers and ensuring their satisfaction.
  • Be extremely knowledgeable about every menu item and able to convey a meaningful description for all guest inquiries.
  • Guiding guests through available food & beverage (wine/spirits) options, assisting with selections and pairings.
  • Accurately record and relay all food and drink orders.
  • Work diligently with our maître d’ and/or management team to immediately address all guest concerns.
  • Properly manage the flow of each meal for an optimum guest experience.
  • Familiarize yourself with the requests of Return Guests and Special Attention guests, to better serve them on the floor and look for opportunities to exceed their expectations.
  • Lead by example and be a pro-active member of our serving staff.
  • Control monthly inventory and weekly ordering, assisting in creating, meeting and exceeding all restaurant wine & spirit financial goals and helping to analyze, review, and follow up on these monthly results.
  • Create and execute tastings and training seminars for the service team, and guests, as directed by management.
  • Regular team, supervisor, and food & beverage meetings.
  • Support the service team and floor manager while on shift.
  • Ensure the highest quality standards are met for service, cleanliness and food presentation.
  • Coordinate with chefs and bartenders, providing clarification when needed.
  • Collaborate with the kitchen staff to coordinate food and beverage orders.
  • A thorough knowledge of wine, BC wines and Old World wines, a must.
  • Extensive knowledge of different types of alcoholic beverages, cocktail recipes, and mixology techniques.
  • Keen interest and knowledge in Tea’s is an asset
  • Continued education and research on new products within the food & beverage industry.
  • Must be able to tend bar and mix cocktails.
  • Prepare and serve a wide range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
  • Maintain cleanliness & organization of storage areas such as fridges, storage room and kitchen.
  • Create unique and innovative drink recipes that meet customer preferences.
  • Assist with the planning, organization, direction, and control of Wine & Spirit offerings.
  • Stocking, product rotation & quality control for all food & beverage outlets.
  • Handle cash transactions accurately and efficiently.
  • Set tables, adhering to brand standards.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Able to function within, and contribute to, a team environment.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent memory for names and faces.
  • Exceptional customer service, good interpersonal skills and communication.
  • Experience with a restaurant POS software platform.
  • Familiarity with POS systems for order processing.
  • Formal training in Hospitality is an asset.
  • Math skills for measuring ingredients and handling cash transactions.
  • Must have legible handwriting.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills.
  • Passionate about creating a positive environment for guests and staff.
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to interact with diverse clientele.
  • Time management skills to ensure efficient service during peak hours.
  • Adhere to all safety and health regulations.
  • Comply with all federal, provincial and municipal laws.
  • Follow all safety and sanitation policies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

** WSET Certification (with previous work experience as a ‘Fine Dining’ Sommelier)

  • High school diploma is (required)
  • Authorization to work in Canada (required)
  • Serving It Right Certification (required)
  • Minimum 2 years work experience in ‘Fine Dining’
  • 2+ years of server experience in ‘Fine Dining’ establishment.
  • Previous Thai food restaurant experience is preferred.
  • Understanding of FoodSafe and liquor law regulations.
