Our top-rated organization is looking to add a SP-Research Assistant to Dr. Kuhn’s research program in our BioMedical Engineering department at the School of Dental Medicine.
Dr. Kuhn’s research program requires an engineering programmer who can write code in Python to control a 3D printer extruder head motion in an integrated way through a Klipper interface. The goal of the software that is being developed is to transform g code output from Cura or Prusa slicer so that it accurately directs the extrusion and retraction settings and print head motion to create 3D printed parts.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:
Basic knowledge of research protocols, principles and procedures; basic knowledge of experimental design, mathematics, statistics, computer applications, laboratory equipment and procedures; basic knowledge of physical and data resources in application scientific disciplines; oral and written communication skills; ability to identify, produce, organize, analyze, evaluate and interpret data.
Ability to write code in Python to control a 3D printer extruder head motion in an integrated way through Klipper interface. Other coding may be required as well.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
General Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Incumbents in this class may be required to undergo periodic tests or immunizations for communicable diseases.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with computational geometry algorithms, g-code parsing, python programming and design, and analysis of electromechanical systems.
- 10+ years’ experience with programming software such as Matlab
- 10+ years’ experience with CAD programs such as Solidworks.
Responsibilities:
PURPOSE OF CLASS:
At the UCHC this class is accountable for performing the basic laboratory and/or related support tasks for assigned research projects/programs or segments of programs/projects.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Provides support services for assigned research projects; may assist higher level research staff on assigned projects. Receives trainee assignments in designated research protocols, procedures, techniques and equipment; performs related duties as required.
