The Boeing Defense, Space and Security, Space and Launch Systems is seeking a Spacecraft Autonomy Engineer – Experienced, Lead and Senior that will develop and manage Autonomous systems for Boeing satellite programs. Typical assignments will include requirements definition and flowdown, systems design and analysis, systems integration, test, and verification. This position is located in El Segundo, CA.
THIS POSITION REQUIRES A CURRENT TIER 5 (T5), FORMERLY KNOWN AS A SINGLE SCOPE BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION (SSBI) (U.S. CITIZENSHIP REQUIRED) OR REQUIRES CANDIDATE AGREED TO ENTER A CONTINUOUS EVALUATION PROGRAM.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
- Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
- 1+ year of experience working in aerospace, defense, or similar high-tech industry
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):
- Experience in Aerospace Engineering or Autonomous Systems
- Experience developing solutions to complex technical problem
- Strong communication (both written and verbal)
- Experience working with C/C++
- Experience working with MATLAB, Python, and Excel Macro’s
Typical Education/Experience:
Experienced (level 3): Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
Lead (level 4): Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years’ related work experience, Master+7 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
Senior (level 5): Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years’ related work experience, Master+12 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
Responsibilities:
- Develops optimal subsystem designs, performs requirements definition and flowdown, creates operational concepts and products, develops interface requirements, and performs verification and validation
- Performs analyses to evaluate and optimize total system performance to meet customer autonomous operation requirements
- Resolves technical issues and ensures the spacecraft and system are flight worthy prior to delivery.
- Creates tools and techniques to optimize, analyze, and validate performance
- Develops solutions with cross-functional teams to assure mission success and presenting those findings to customer and senior management
- Performs trade studies to meet program requirements
To meet security standards and protocols, this position is 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite in El Segundo, CA.
Thisworksite participates in Boeing’s optional 9/80 schedule rotation. 9/80 is a rotation in which employees can work 9 hour shifts, 8 days per pay period (bi-weekly) and receive every other Friday off.
