The Special Assistant to the Chief Development Officer (CDO) reports to the CDO and helps to direct and accelerate the work of one of the University’s most significant fundraisers, routinely interacting with senior constituents of the university, both internally and externally, as the CDO focuses on top level philanthropic relationship building, and management of Georgetown’s most engaged donors. The Special Assistant provides critical administrative and tactical support, strategic thought partnership on advancing these relationships, as well as special projects that the CDO leads or is engaged in. Additional duties include, but are not limited to:
- Ensure close and efficient day-to-day management of the CDO’s office and portfolio, necessary to drive the fundraising agenda.
- Provide effective and complex coordination of advancement strategies and development activities that will further the CDOs portfolio.
- Understand and be knowledgeable around the CDOs portfolio, including complete awareness of the managed prospects and donors and their background and history with Georgetown.
- In close collaboration with colleagues in Prospect Management Data and focused on revenue generation, support ongoing comprehensive portfolio and prospect analysis, tracking the CDO’s goals and metrics.
- Help the CDO in developing and implementing a University-wide strategy as it relates to managing generational wealth, expanding and building on previous foundational work done to create a new methodology of engagement around wealth in families and multi-generational donors.
- As a key Advancement liaison with the Office of the Provost in particular, help to direct the CDO to streamline, prioritize, and deploy the Provost most effectively.
- Assist the CDO in scheduling and administrative support for engagement with University leadership as directed by the CDO.
Work Interactions
The Special Assistant is supervised by the CDO and collaborates closely with them to manage the portfolio and responsibilities. The Special Assistant will collaborate with members of the University Development Leadership group, the CMDX and DATA teams as well as, as appropriate, members of the Executive Leadership team for the Office of Advancement and senior university leadership and faculty, including members of the Office of the President and Provost.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree; Masters degree preferred
- 5+ years of professional experience
- Outstanding written communication skills
- Strong organization and project management skills as well as attention to detail
- The ability to work independently, proactively and with sound strategic judgment
- Ability to act, behave, and manage with discretion both confidential material and matters
- Ability to handle complex information, prioritize it, organize it, communicate as appropriate
- Flexibility, efficiency, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines for a wide variety of assignments with a positive, professional attitude
- Required to work flexible hours and respond in a timely and professional manner to requests and assigned tasks
- Proficiency in word processing, database, and spreadsheet computer applications to include Windows, Microsoft Word, WordPerfect, Excel, Access and the Internet
- Must realize the importance of stewarding donors and prospects at all times and work entrepreneurially and creatively to do so
- Work experience in a higher education institution and within a fundraising department preferred
- Experience supporting the work of senior and executive level positions, especially those with revenue generating responsibilities and goals preferred

Pay Range:
The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
$66,783.00 - $126,720.23
Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
