JOB OVERVIEW

It is an exciting time for Neonatal services at St Helier’s as we expand to support our Maternity colleagues to deliver exceptional Neonatal Transitional Care (NTC). The post holder will be part of Neonatal nursing team and work flexibly across the Neonatal unit and Postnatal ward, dependant on service need.
The successful post holder will work alongside families, supporting and teaching parents to care for their newborn or premature babies in preparation for discharge home. The post holder will be expected to take a patient load and work independently, under the supervision of the Neonatal nursing team. Further expansion of the service in March 2025 will see the addition of a band 5 Neonatal nurse on every shift. This will enable a full range of Special Care interventions to be delivered on the postnatal ward at the mother’s bedside.
As a new service we will be providing a bespoke 6 week orientation and education program. The go live date for this service is the 1st October 2024 and therefore we are looking for staff to commence employment six weeks prior to this date (19th August 2024). Please note this role is a shift worker position, as such you would be expected to work a variety of long days, nights, weekends and bank holidays.

MAIN DUTIES OF THE JOB

To promote a friendly and supportive atmosphere for parents and relatives in which they can learn to care for their babies. To utilise a variety of strategies to communicate effectively: with the neonate’s family/carers, the multidisciplinary team, other departments within the Trust and pertinent agencies outside the organisation. Support the nursing team in proving advices on breastfeeding, developmental care, family integrated care and parent education.
