MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. A valid New York State motor vehicle driver license may be required for appointment to certain positions based on the operational needs of the facility. If required, this license must be maintained for the duration of employment.

Responsibilities:

To perform at the highest standard when maintaining the safety of all individuals who are on and/or inside the premises of Bellevue Hospital.
General tasks and responsibilities will include:
Perform duties in a professional and efficient manner in order to provide a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.
Perform duties in proper uniform as indicated at Roll Call or as dictated by his/her immediate supervisor.
Answer telephones in a courteous and professional manner; identify your department name (i.e. “Bellevue Hospital Police, Officer Jones, how may I help you?")
Proceed to his/her assigned area promptly and without delay.
Comply with meal and post relief breaks as directed.
Report any unusual crime and safety hazards to the Patrol Supervisor and/or the Central Dispatcher.
Conduct safety patrols to include fire prevention, smoke violations, ward visitation restrictions and visitor’s hours, roof and ground floor door alarm inspections in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Enforce rules and regulations as required of uniformed Hospital Police personnel.
Do not use facility computers unless authorized to do so or enter into areas that are restricted according to hospital regulations.
Render all necessary police service in your assigned area and as otherwise directed.
Keep the Desk Officer or supervisor informed of Hospital Police services rendered.
Investigate suspicious conditions and circumstances on assigned post.
Maintain a memo book and produce as requested by any uniformed Hospital Police supervisor, Chief of Hospital Police, Assist Chief of Hospital Police, or other competent authority.
Monitor portable radio and conduct tests to ensure radio system is operating correctly.
Remain at assigned post until relieved for meal and retum to post upon completion of meal hour.
Maintain practical knowledge of all relevant Hospital Police policies, Health + Hospitals policies, regulations and any other relevant documents.
Take offenders into custody, issue summonses, desk appearance tickets, or process through central booking as required, requested or directed.
Notify a Hospital Police supervisor or the Desk Officer when detained in court or elsewhere.
Request medical assistance fix sick and injured persons as necessary and provide emergency medical assistance if qualified; qualified assistance includes first aid, CPR and emergency stop the bleeding techniques.
Demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate with all persons including staff, patients, visitors and regulatory agencies.
Appropriately respond to missing persons notifications, conduct searches at designated areas and maintain vigilance as requested.
Perform all other tasks as required, requested or directed by uniformed supervisor, Chief of Hospital Police, Assistant Chief of Hospital Police or other competent authority.
