Project: Creation of an Amazigh Studies subject guide
Although North Africa and Amazigh studies were never a strong focus at the Institute of Islamic Studies, the past few years have seen a growing interest in this area at McGill (Integrated studies, Linguistics Religious studies, Architecture). Given the connexion of this field to African studies and Middle Eastern Studies both covered by the Islamic Studies librarian, it makes sense that this subject guide be developed under the “Islamic Studies” umbrella.
Under the authority and direct supervision of the Head Librarian, the student will scan the local environment and beyond, search for relevant and appropriate resources, and create and populate the subject guide. All of these tasks will be accomplished in close collaboration with the supervisor.

Description:

  • Identify existing Amazigh/North African studies subject guides
  • Survey the research and teaching in the field happening at McGill and in Montreal over the past ten years, identify Faculty and students involved and their publications
  • Conduct wide-internet searches to adapt the list of resources to local research and teaching interests
  • Design categories within Amazigh/North African studies to structure the list of resources
  • Create and populate the subject guide using LibGuides.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities:
Requirements include good communication skills, attention to detail, the ability to work independently, knowledge of Tamazight and French, proficiency with documentary research, and information curating. McGill University is an English-language university where day-to-day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level # (3) on a scale of 0-4.
