Description:

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

  • Engage in continuing professional development by keeping up to date with nursing literature, recent nursing research and new developments in nursing management, education and practice and to attend staff study days as considered appropriate
  • Be familiar with the curriculum training programme for student nurses and be aware of the clinical experience required to meet the needs of the programme

1. STATUTORY REGISTRATION, PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, ETC

(a) Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition:
(i) Are registered in the relevant division of the Register of Nurses & Midwives
maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland [NMBI] (Bord
Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann) or entitled to be so registered.
(ii) Have at least 5 years post registration experience (or an aggregrate of 5 years
fulltime post registration experience) of which 2 years must be in the speciality
or related area.
(iii) Have the clinical, managerial and administrative capacity to properly discharge
the functions of the role.
(iv) Candidates must demonstrate evidence of continuous professional development.
(b) Candidates must possess the requisite knowledge and ability including a high standard of
suitability and clinical, managerial and administrative capacity to properly discharge the

Responsibilities:

ROLE SUMMARY

Beaumont Hospital Ophthalmology Department provides an ophthalmic outpatient service, an inpatient consultation service, and a Day Surgery Service for different types of ophthalmic procedures. Our department is seeking applications for the position of Clinical Nurse Manager II to work in conjunction with our multidisciplinary team which consists of 1 full time CNS, 2 Ophthalmic Surgeons, 1 Community Ophthalmic Physician, 4 Non-Consultant Hospital Doctors (NCHDs – rotating with the Mater Misericordia University Hospital), 2 Orthoptists, and 3 administrative secretaries. Clinical Nurse Managers provide a visible and accessible senior nursing presence through a variety of contexts and maintain effective collaborative relationships with multidisciplinary teams, patients, and families. Attention to detail, quality improvement, service design, commitment, and leadership are some of the many skills expected of the role. Service functions include, but are not limited to, supporting, participating, and leading services within the department such as the different types of nurse-led clinics (e.g. oculoplastic, orbital disease, glaucoma, ocular toxicity), inpatient consultations, day surgery procedures, the Botulinum Toxin Clinic, diagnostic procedures (e.g. visual field testing, fundal photography), and the laser clinic (e.g. diabetic retinopathy, retinal tears, post cataract fibrosis). This role offers potential pathways into the Clinical Nurse Specialist role.
