Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a Specialist, Agreements to drive delivery of Rio Tinto Weipa operations’ commitments against land use agreements in partnership with Traditional Owner groups and agreements committees.
The Weipa Communities and Social Performance team has accountability for many functions including agreement implementation and compliance, cultural heritage management, Indigenous employment and development, community relations, internal and external communications and community engagement for growth and closure planning studies. The role provides support to several functions within the team and across other business units.

This role is a great opportunity for a highly organised, people focused individual who has strong stakeholder engagement skills and ability to manage time effectively to work with others to implement Rio Tinto’s land use agreements. Reporting to the Manager, Communities within the Communities and Social Performance team, you will be:

  • Applying professional knowledge and expertise to advise on implementation commitments and deliver key Communities and Social Performance initiatives, systems and/or programs
  • Leading Rio Tinto compliance with agreement commitments and ensuring obligations are actively tracked and managed
  • Collaborating on complex challenges that require critical thinking and reasoning skills
  • Using business software applications to prepare presentations, correspondence, and reports
  • Delivering training and improving agreements-related processes and procedures
  • Representing the organisation at community meetings and/or forums
  • Coordinating programs and activities to promote mutual beneficial outcomes with key partners; and
  • Supporting continuation of favourable relationships with community leaders and internal and external stakeholders

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • Leadership experience
  • Previous experience working in an agreements or community relations associated role, with responsibility for management of obligations, negotiations and dispute resolution
  • Ability to work in a culturally diverse environment with confidentiality and respect
  • High level of computer literacy with experience in Office 365
  • Excellent organisational skills with high attention to detail and a ‘can do’ attitude
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with a wide range of stakeholder
