Description:

The successful candidate will be welcomed into a department with a current substantive consultant establishment of twenty-six. In addition, there are up to 18 SAS grade Anaesthetists and Clinical Fellows.
The trainee establishment consists of 7 CTs, together with 9 ST3+s all rotating from the East Midlands School of Anaesthesia (EMSA). The department also has two Foundation Year 1 doctors and one Foundation Year 2 doctor on 4-month rotations.
You would be on the resident first on call out of hours. This is dependent on experience and best fit for them and the anaesthetic service. These rotas are 1 in 8 resident on call rotas with the hope to move to 1:10 as we expand our department.
The job plan would include regular subspecialty sessions negotiable depending on experience.
The remainder of their job plan would be within general anaesthesia and/or intensive care depending on experience and mutually agreeable requirements; there is a degree of flexibility. We are supportive of CESR if this path is of interest however this would require flexibility to work in other areas to enable success through the GMCs rigorous process.
Whilst working in your subspecialty, you will be an independent practitioner, however there is always support from the duty consultant anaesthetist in hours and on call consultant out of hours.
There is an expectation to take a proactive role in teaching trainees who are undertaking their theatre modules.

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WOULD BE:

the resident obstetric on call rota covering out of hours emergencies on the labour ward.
acting as an independent practitioner covering elective caesarean section list, providing cross cover as necessary for the labour ward.
The on call rota is a 1 in 8 rota and the elective caesarean section lists once started would be job planned.
In 2019 the department was shortlisted and received a high commendation at the BMJ awards for Perioperative Team of the Year. In 2018 & 2019 the department was shortlisted for HJS value & safety awards for various projects.
The Anaesthetic Department is actively in the process of achieving National Accreditation with The Royal College of Anaesthetists, we expect this to be complete within the next 2 years.
We manage our service with open discussion; listening to and respecting everyone’s views. The clinical speciality leads have the responsibility to facilitate change and improvements in the service supported by the leadership team. We encourage everyone to be both leader and follower to help deliver improvements. Active participation in service development, departmental management, clinical governance & education is required.
