Description:

An exciting opportunity has arisen within LUHFT LCL Specialist Coagulation department for a highly-skilled and suitably qualified Biomedical Scientist. LUHFT is a regional specialist centre for bleeding disorders and Thrombotic Microangiopathy and the laboratory provides specialised diagnostic services to patients with Haemostasis disorders.
The post holder will perform investigations for diagnosis and treatment of patients with bleeding and thrombotic disorders. They will have a proven track record and detailed knowledge of theoretical and practical coagulation procedures. They will perform a complex range of tests and authorise results according to agreed procedures to clinicians, nursing staff.
The successful candidate will be primarily based at The Royal Liverpool site but will be expected to support coagulation at other sites to meet the demands of the service. They will be required to work outside of routine working hours to meet the demands of the service where necessary.
We invite applications from enthusiastic candidates who have a genuine interest in coagulation and are interested in opportunities for progression and development. The department utilises Werfen analysers across 3 sites, processing samples via HemoHub and Telepath. You should be able to work autonomously, using your own initiative, demonstrating good interpersonal and communication skills.
As part of your role, you will write and implement standard operating procedures, maintain quality assurance standards and train all grades of staff whilst directly involved in service development and modernisation. You will have HR responsibilities appropriate to the role and will be directly involved with appropriate responsibilities for achieving and maintaining laboratory standards including UKAS ISO: 15189:2022. You will perform specialist haemostasis assays as directed by senior staff including platelet function screening, inhibitor assays and thrombotic and lupus investigations.

Responsibilities:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide timely and accurate results using the appropriate automated and manual processes.
  • Provide routine and specialist coagulation analyses, validation, interpretation and reporting of results.
  • Maintain complex analytical equipment in both routine and specialist areas.
  • Troubleshoot analytical issues appropriately and escalate problems if required.
  • Perform and monitor internal quality control and investigate issues when required.
  • Perform and review external quality assurance surveys and attend departmental performance review meetings.
  • Review and maintain coagulation stock levels across all sites.
  • Supervise, teach, advise and inform all grades of staff.
  • Comply with HCPC Standards of Proficiency and Conduct.
  • Participate in the Specialist Coagulation Standby Roster to undertake specialist assays as requested by Haematology Consultants
