Description:

We are currently looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, suitably qualified, and experienced HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist for a Specialist BMS role within the Blood Sciences Department, Carmarthenshire Division of Hywel Dda University Health Board, Glangwili General Hospital (GGH), Carmarthen. The vacancy is for a permanent, full time (37.5 hours) post in the Haematology and Blood Transfusion section at GGH Carmarthen.
The laboratory provides services in Haematology, Coagulation, Blood Transfusion and Biochemistry, in a newly refurbished combined Blood Science laboratory area. The site currently runs a fully automated platform with Haematology analysers being Siemens Advia 2120i, Coagulation, Werfen ACL TOP 350 analysers, Ortho Vision platforms for Blood Transfusion and Biochemistry is the Roche Cobas PRO systems and a Specialised Chemistry section.
The successful candidate will be primarily based at the Glangwili General Hospital site which sits within the Carmarthenshire Division of Hywel Dda University Health Board. The Carmarthenshire division comprises of Glangwili General Hospital, Carmarthen and Prince Philip Hospital, Llanelli, and may be expected to work across both sites as required.
This post is advertised as a Band 6 and ideally candidates for this role must have achieved the Specialist Diploma. However applicants who do not currently hold the qualification for the Band 6 role, are encouraged to apply and, if successful, will need to attain the qualification within 4 years and will be appointed under Annex 21 rules.
This means they will be supported by a development plan. During the first year payment will be 60% of the top rate of Band 6 pay, the second year 65%, third year 70% and fourth year 75%. Following successful passing of the Specialist Diploma the post holder will then be paid at Band 6 (minimum point on the scale). Support and supervision will be provided in order to develop the successful applicant to the Band 6 role.
Failure to achieve the qualification in the designated timeframe could result in re-deployment.
The department operates a contractual shift pattern supporting Round the Clock Services, and out of hours working on the Haematology / Blood Transfusion rota will be part of this role
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
