Description:
We are currently recruiting to our Haematology and Blood Transfusion Service and are looking for enthusiastic, committed and innovative specialist biomedical scientists to join our team. The successful candidate will assist in the delivery of a quality driven, cost effective, patient focused service consistent with the Nottingham University Hospitals Trust’s objectives.

As a Specialist Biomedical Scientist, the post holders’ main role is to carry out the examination of samples using various technologies which may be of a specialist nature and to report or present the results as appropriate. It is expected that the post holder would have a considerable degree of autonomy and would be able to work unsupervised for significant periods. The post holder will be expected to assist the section manager in the daily operation of the assigned section including the supervision more junior Registered BMS and support staff.
Specialist Biomedical Scientists will hold the Specialist Portfolio in Haematology and Blood Transfusion (or equivalent M level qualification) and will be encouraged to to work towards a Higher Specialist Diploma. A minimum of 12 months experience in a UK based laboratory is essential criteria for applicants.

The Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust is a large, busy teaching hospital with a wide range of clinical specialties including Adult and Paediatric Haematological Malignancies, Haemophilia and Thrombosis, Haemoglobinopathies, as well as routine screening. The Queens Medical Centre Campus is the regional Trauma Centre for the Trent region. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in the 24hr/7 days a week roster including across both sites at QMC and Nottingham City Hospital as well as gaining knowledge in the non-routine services of red cell and coagulation investigations.
You will be required, amongst other responsibilities, to carry out all laboratory analyses associated with the post, including reporting results, maintaining appropriate records and documentation; undertake specialised analytical work in designated areas of the department.
Take delegated responsibility for the quality control, operation, routine maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment and to undertake quality control procedures, examine quality control results to identify poor performance and instigate appropriate action.
Take delegated responsibility for the supervision, training and coaching of staff as well as giving advice to colleagues and or clinicians regarding the appropriateness of samples or assays.
Maintain standards of laboratory policies and procedures to ensure that the department meets external Quality Assurance and Accreditation standards.
Rotation into specialist sections that include haemostasis and thrombosis, red cell investigations and antenatal serology
