POSITION SUMMARY:

The Special Olympics Global Government Relations team is seeking a Specialist, Global Government Relations to join them at Special Olympics’ headquarters office in Washington, DC.
The Special Olympics Global Government Relations department educates and mobilizes governments to adopt inclusive policies, plans, and practices, and commit resources to Special Olympics Programs and activities. The goal of the department is to advance the rights and opportunities of people with intellectual disabilities around the world, creating cultures of inclusion and acceptance where people with intellectual disabilities have equitable access to resources and services and are full participants in their communities.
The Specialist, Global Government Relations will provide key support in the areas of U.S. and global government relations, consular relations, operations, and relationship management. The goals of this position are to support: the department’s operational work, the department’s key cultivation and stewardship efforts, and priority gatherings and experiences that catalyze governments to commit to inclusion by demonstrating the power of including people with ID, and the advancement of the department’s consular relations efforts.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: (LIST THE YEARS OF EXPERIENCE, CRITICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND EDUCATION NECESSARY TO DO THE JOB)

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, not required or 1-3 years of similar experience;
  • Exceptional organizational, writing, communication, research, and diplomacy skills, with the capability to maintain the highest levels of discretion;
  • Outstanding organizational skills;
  • Dedicated to paying incredible attention to the smallest details;
  • Knowledge of or interest in government relations, diplomacy, and current events;
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects with competing deadlines;
  • Willingness to be a self-starter and take initiative;
  • A solutions-oriented attitude with a motivation to investigate challenges and solve critical issues creatively;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with individuals from a range of cultures and professional and cultural backgrounds;
  • Willingness to travel and to staff and travel inside and outside the U.S., including with high-level principals on occasion; and
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, as well as excellent email and online research skills.
