In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of Island Health (Vancouver Island Health Authority), patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position
Reporting to one of the following Director, Technology Management; Director, Device Services; Manager, Enterprise Technical Services; Manager, Data Centre and Microsoft Platforms; Manager, Network Architecture, Manager, Network Operations, or Manager, Medical Imaging, the Specialist supports VIHA s strategic and clinical objectives by developing and championing the implementation and adoption of new and improved technology solutions that align with IM/IT and provincial standards, as well as VIHA s clinical and business requirements.
The Specialist provides expert vision, direction and leadership to advise executive and senior IM/IT staff; guides project teams, staff, contractors and vendors to ensure technical solutions deliver desired business outcomes. Researches and analyses industry, market and technology trends and standards to determine the suitability of approaches in solving VIHA business challenges.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a degree in computer science and ten (10) years’ relevant experience including experience in technology deployment and management in a large clinical organization.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Considerable experience managing large, diverse technology projects including planning, executing and evaluation.
- Ability to keep skill set up to date with new technologies as they are introduced to the workplace.
- Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communications skills.
- Ability to work independently and organize workload and priorities.
- Ability to transfer knowledge and skills to other department staff.
- Ability to provide clear and concise briefing materials for executive as well as system documentation and procedures for other staff.
- Physical ability to perform job.
