Description:

COME AND JOIN ONE OF THE UK’S LARGEST PROVIDERS OF COMPLEX CARE. WE PROUDLY EMPLOY OVER 4000+ PEOPLE - NO MATTER WHAT YOUR EXPERIENCE, WE HAVE JOBS FOR EVERYONE.

We are excited to present a fantastic opportunity for a Highly Specialist Occupational Therapist (experience equivalent to Band 7) to join our supportive therapy team at the well sought-after Blackheath Brain Injury Rehabilitation Unit in London.
Located in trendy South East London, 10 minutes-walk away from the pretty cafes and boutiques of Greenwich, the unit has a 19-bed Level 1 Highly Specialist Cognitive-Behavioural ward and a Level 2 Neurorehabilitation ward with 18 beds. Both wards provide specialist treatment to patients with physical and cognitive impairments resulting from an acquired / traumatic brain injury.
You will be working as part of an enthusiastic, supportive, and experienced multidisciplinary team (neurology, neuropsychiatry, neuropsychology, nursing, physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, social workers) where you will exercise complex clinical reasoning in regard to assessment, rehabilitation and discharge planning.
As part of an experienced and skilled Occupational Therapy team who will provide support and guidance, you will hold your own caseload of patients across both wards on the site.
The Blackheath Brain Injury Unit is a renowned centre for complex neurorehabilitation and is part of the Active Care Group Neuro Network (consisting of 25+ sites nationally) which has a focus on the use of clinical expertise, innovation, and technology to meet patients’ expectations of their rehabilitation goals.
There is a strong ethos of patient-centred high-quality care which drives clinical and administrative decision-making. There have been exciting new renovations to the wards and value is placed on staff wellbeing. As part of our commitment to the continuing professional development of our team, we offer support and funding towards postgraduate training such as the PgCert in Sensory Integration.
If you are passionate about neurological rehabilitation, delivering high-quality patient care and enjoy working as part of a supportive multidisciplinary team, we want to hear from you!

Responsibilities:

  • Deputise for the Lead Occupational Therapist when required and be a focal point of the team within the Blackheath community.
  • Develop, carry out, and generalise safe, innovative, evidence-based treatments, underpinned by the principles of neuroplasticity and motor re-learning.
  • Plan and prioritise a complex clinical caseload.
  • Assist the MDT in diagnosis, problem formulation and planning of rehabilitation programmes.
  • Function as a Key Worker/Named Therapist to ensure active coordination and management of the therapeutic programme to achieve the agreed rehabilitation goals.
  • Play a key role in planning safe discharges.
  • Prescribe and provide equipment for our patients during their rehabilitation journey.
  • Provide intervention as part of an MDT approach and be involved in MDT service developments.
  • Maintain records and clinical notes in line with company policy and RCOT guidelines.
  • Ensure effective and timely communication at all levels (with patients, families, the MDT and external agencies).
  • Develop and deliver in-service education and training programme for the wider MDT.
  • Supervise junior members of staff such as Band 6 therapists, assistants, and students.
  • Keep people safe from harm and protect their human rights
