Description:

We are excited to be expanding our Major Trauma Outreach team and are looking for a Specialist Occupational Therapist to join us. Royal Preston Hospital is the Major Trauma Centre for Lancashire and South Cumbria so you will always be kept busy! Working across a variety of clinical areas you will build positive working relationships across specialisms and professions to ensure effective collaboration and a holistic approach to care. You will provide specialist OT assessment and interventions and share your knowledge and expertise to support the delivery of consistent care.
We are also the regional centre for Neurosurgery, therefore you will draw upon your experience of specialist cognitive assessments and interventions to provide excellent care to patients on outlier wards.
This is a new role and something we’re really excited about and are looking forward to welcoming someone who is equally as passionate into our team!
You will work closely with the Major Trauma MDT, especially the Specialist Physiotherapist to provide collaborative holistic care to patients across the Major Trauma pathway. This will involve carrying your own caseload as well as supporting others to provide appropriate interventions. You will also ensure timely completion of rehab prescriptions and support others to do the same.
We are currently reviewing our Traumatic Brain Injury pathway and you will link closely with the Neurosciences Therapy Team to further develop its implementation. You will also develop links across the Major Trauma Network and establish working relationships with colleagues from other trusts and services to ensure continuity of care.
You will work dynamically alongside numerous teams, specialisms and professions therefore you will need to be adaptable and confident in your approach. Most importantly you will be passionate about providing excellent levels of care and continuously developing both your practice and the service.
We have 10,000 fantastic people working hard to deliver quality services to our patients. Whatever your role, you help look after 370,000 people in our local area & give specialist care to 1.5 million people across Lancashire & Cumbria.
Working with us gives you the knowledge and sense of pride that every activity you do genuinely does make a difference to support our patients & staff, ensuring we keep thriving & delivering outstanding healthcare right across our local towns.
You’ll have access to varied development opportunities, learn new skills, meet fab people & do things you’d never have done. You’ll learn about working in a hospital, interacting with people from all different roles to build skills & enhance your career path.
You’ll make an impact, be challenged to think differently, be bold & help innovate to keep improving things. Everything we do centres around patient care which means your role is pivotal and something really to be proud of.
You will have excellent communication skills to enhance your working relationships and interactions with patients as well as a strong rehabilitation focus. When you’re not treating patients you’ll have the opportunity to attend in service training both within our team and as part of Core Therapies such as the cognitive and perceptual training led by our Occupational Therapy team. You will also have the opportunity to build relationship across the wider Major Trauma Network and also attend external training and conferences to ensure you maintain up to date evidence based practice.
We are continuously developing our service and this is something we’d love you to be involved in with our team meetings being a great place for us all to share and expand our ideas. Alongside this you’ll have the opportunity to provide supervision and appraisal to our therapy assistants, students and band 5 OTs. There is also a band 6 Occupational Therapy forum that meets each month that provides a safe space for discussion with your peers as well as presentations and training from a range of speakers. We work in a fast paced environment and can promise that you’ll never be bored or short of things to do!
This is a fabulous opportunity to improve and develop therapy provision across the trust and you will be fully supported by the appropriate clinical leads and professional leads in your clinical development.
