Specialist Occupational Therapist for Orthopaedic / Surgical Unit
Are you looking to specialise in Orthopaedics and Surgery? Are you a band 6 looking for a static position in a vibrant and dynamic team? Or an experienced band 5 looking for promotion to band 6? A new and exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Occupational Therapist to join our dedicated department. We are passionate about patient centred care, support our clinicians to lead and deliver excellent and compassionate services, and value our clinical teams as the real heart of the NHS.
As a band 6 Occupational Therapist you will work within an Occupational Therapy team comprising of three support workers, one junior band 5s and three other band 6 Occupational Therapists under the lead of two experienced band 7 Team Leads. The team work closely with the wider Multi-Disciplinary Team and have an excellent, well-respected working relationship with Consultants, Nurses, Physios, Social Care Team and Case Managers.

    This position is for an Occupational Therapist to work within our well established Orthopaedic and Surgical unit. The team covers all aspects of elective and trauma care for patients with a variety of co-morbidities, social and environmental challenges. The Occupational Therapist will support individuals to achieve their goals in self-care, productivity and leisure. Liaising and offering advice to the individual and their carers in conjunction with the relevant community staff.
    Working on our Unit will allow you to develop skills in upper and lower limb splinting, rapid assessment, complex discharge planning, expanding your knowledge of large equipment provision, especially around complex moving and handling.
    Working as a valued member of the wider Multi-Disciplinary Team your role will include assessment and treatment of patients, prevention of de-conditioning, facilitation of timely and effective patient discharge, and on-going referrals to other agencies. You will also take on the responsibility of supervising band 5s. As the opportunity arises, you will be expected to take on the supervision and education of Occupational Therapy Students on placement.     The post holder assists in the development, administration and provision of a specialist Occupational Therapy service; carries a varied caseload of patients. Managing complex assessment, with predominantly physical conditions and with regard to the physical, emotional, psychosocial, spiritual and social aspects of their care.
    Directly responsible for the management of own caseload of patients with diverse presentation and complex physical and psychological conditions, referred for Occupational Therapy assessment, rehabilitation, treatment planning and discharge management.
    Assists in the management of the specialist team providing, developing and planning an Occupational Therapy service to patients for this client group. The post holder will act as a source of expertise, demonstrating and maintaining knowledge, skills and experience in this specialist role
