Description:
The post holder will support the senior and lead pharmacists for clinical trials in the provision of a safe and effective clinical trials pharmacy service to Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
They will act as the specialist pharmacist for clinical trials and will be responsible for ensuring that operational services are running smoothly within the section and provide a specialist clinical trials pharmacy service to Moorfields patients.
The post holder will act as the Specialist Pharmacist for Clinical Trials and will be responsible for:
- Supporting all aspects of operational clinical trials dispensing services.
- Supporting and senior and lead clinical trials pharmacists in the setup of new clinical trials and managing any trial amendments.
- To ensure that all approvals are in place, all necessary documentation is included in the pharmacy study files and training provided to clinical trials pharmacy and relevant research staff before commencement of the study.
- To review relevant protocols, SOPs, and policies as required.
- Assist with monitoring visits and queries from clinical trial monitors.
- To contribute regularly to review and approval of clinical trial costings and the preparation of usage and expenditure reports in relation to clinical trials.
- To ensure that all clinical trials are conducted appropriately with regard to Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and all other relevant medicines regulations and ethical requirements.

- To support all aspects of operational clinical trials dispensing services
- To be responsible for pharmacy set-up of allocated clinical trials
- To review trial protocols, liaise with sponsors and the research team
- To ensure that all approvals are in place, all necessary documentation is included in the pharmacy study files and training provided to clinical trials pharmacy and relevant research staff before commencement of the study.
- To be responsible for timely management, approval, and implementation of all clinical trials amendments and work with the Research and Development team to implement this.
- Assist with monitoring visits and queries from clinical trial monitors in a timely manner.
- To support the Senior and Lead Pharmacists for Clinical Trials in ensuring relevant risk assessments are completed for sponsored clinical trials involving Investigational Medicinal Products (IMPs), Advanced Therapy Investigational Medicinal Products (ATIMPs), Clinical Trials of Investigational Medicinal Products (CTIMPs). To support the Senior and Lead Pharmacists for Clinical Trials in ensuring that all research governance issues involving pharmacy are addressed and that relevant documents are maintained.
- To maintain a forefront awareness of all relevant legislation and clinical guidelines and to interpret their implications for clinical trials.
- To deputise for the Senior Clinical Trials Pharmacist in his/her absence.
- To provide daily supervision, training and clinical assessments for Pharmacy staff working within the Clinical Trials section.
- To act as a direct line manager to clinical pharmacists as required and to set annual objectives, personal development plans and to regularly review progress of junior staff within the team.
