WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for a Specialist, R&D Manufacturing - Process Innovation to join our team on a full-time permanent basis. This position will require candidates to be in-office 5 days a week and candidates will split time between our Head Office in Liberty Village and our Production Facility in Etobicoke.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED TO GET THE JOB DONE

  • B.S or higher in chemical engineering or a related field
  • Experience planning and executing commercial scale lots within the cosmetic, pharmaceutical, or food industry.
  • Technical knowledge of manufacturing and filling equipment and of manufacturing processes within the cosmetic, pharmaceutical, or food industry
  • Working knowledge of ISO 22716:2007 and cGMP guidelines and formulation experience across a spectrum of formulation chassis, with a good understanding of common stability issues
  • Familiarity with process validation and release criteria specifications and familiarity using; viscometers, rheometer, pH meter, pycnometer, centrifuge, homogenizer, and other standard laboratory equipment.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for designing and developing R&D manufacturing processes for various formulation types to support T.O, NIOD, Incubator development.
  • Identify and introduce novel & science-based manufacturing technologies and innovative approaches in batch management to R&D formulators and business.
  • Demonstrate technical knowledge in understanding and handling of cosmetic raw materials, filling, and manufacturing equipment.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of ISO 22716:2007 and cGMP guidelines.
  • Organize and execute laboratory experiments to advance the knowledge and understanding of scale-up requirements.
  • Collaborate with R&D formulators and VTT team to develop strategies for scale-up and manufacturing to support ongoing internal research and commercialization.
  • Demonstrate creative problem-solving and propose alternative solutions to scale up challenges based on lab, pilot and scaleup batches.
  • Calculate the energy requirements to successfully manufacture formulas at different lab scales, 300g – 10L, to provide clear direction and technical information to VTT team.
  • Identify the most suitable manufacturing technologies based on the formulations and associated scale up challenges and communicate the requirements to formulators and VTT team. Guide equipment selection and procurement and implement the required process parameters and conditions for R&D lab and pilot area.
  • Collaborates across functional areas including analytical development, CR, Micro, QA, QC, and manufacturing to accomplish project goals.
