This position is eligible for a hybrid work model. When attending an event or meeting in person, your primary office location will be based out of 426 Brant Street – City Hall. Work location is subject to change at the discretion of the City due to operational demands.
Position Overview
An exciting opportunity to bring your social media expertise to one of Canada’s best cities to further enhance our social media success and ensure Burlington continues to be an engaging city. This position is part of the Government and Strategic Communications section of the Chief Administrative Officer’s Office and reports to the Manager of Communications.
Responsibilities

The Specialist, Social Media and Digital will be responsible to:

  • Manage the City’s reputation at all times while communicating through social media
  • Develop, coordinate, and implement social media strategies and targeted social media postings
  • Engage in customer response through social media channels
  • Measure and report on the success of social media for the City
  • Work with Managers and Communication Advisors to develop social media messaging and create and integrate video and images
  • Support corporate marketing and advertising campaigns, newsletters, promotional activities and events
  • Support emergencies and handle sensitive information with required social media approach and ongoing monitoring
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and integration of digital initiatives with overall organizational goals
  • Serve as subject matter expert on digital and social media trends tools and platforms and provide training and guidance to internal stakeholders as needed Identify trends and emerging issues for digital and social media opportunities
  • Support digital media including web, video, photography, and basic design
  • Coordinate video and photography vendors as required

Requirements
You will have a related post-secondary degree or diploma in an area such as Design, Journalism, or Communications, and 2-4 years of related experience municipal preferred. You will also have proficiency with social media tools and an advanced understanding of the needs/requirements of target audiences and the impact and responsibility of information disseminated through social media. You will have a working knowledge of design, video and web editing tools/software. You will be a team player who engages others to build relationships and create the best communication products. You will be required to work some evenings and weekends and work may occur outside of regular work hours. This role requires some in-person work, attending events and activities across Burlington to support the City’s communications and marketing efforts.
