Description:
The opportunity
University of the Arts London (UAL) is looking for a Specialist Technician – Animation to join our technical team at London College of Communication (LCC).
In the Moving Image and Digital Arts (MIDA) programme, we support students studying visual effects, traditional and digital animation, immersive technologies and games design.
You’ll work with colleagues to develop workshops and resources and provide professional support, technical expertise, guidance and advice to staff and students in using rostrum and multiplane cameras and lighting setups; using motion capture (MoCap) equipment and software; working with 2D and 3D animation software; and working with animation, VFX, games and XR software and pipelines.
You’ll play an integral part in ensuring that students have access to the fullest range of technical resources, and experience the latest in emerging and digital technologies, and that those resources are being managed and used safely and efficiently.
As an active member of the technical team, you’ll have opportunities to contribute to the technical resources strategy. Your role will encompass communicating with stakeholders, acting as a point of contact for technical support and ensuring access to up-to-date and accurate information for students, academics, technicians, and other university staff.
This is a fixed term role covering a period of parental leave.
About you
Are you a creative individual with a passion for traditional and digital animation and its related skills and workflows, who would relish the challenge of supporting a diverse range of talented learners, thinkers and makers?
We’re keen to find someone who is a good communicator and mindful collaborator, with the ability to explain complex subject related information clearly and passionately. Experience of supporting learners and colleagues from a diverse range of backgrounds and skillsets within their creative and pedagogic workflow is key in successful delivery. Knowledge of Health and Safety best practice and management within the designated technical areas and studios is also essential.
You might also be proficient in the use of several of the following relevant software: Maya, Blender, Cinema 4D, ZBrush, Houdini, Toon Boom, TV Paint, Dragonframe, Premiere Pro, After Effects, and more.
If you have a creative mindset underpinned by practical skills in the fields of analogue and digital studio techniques used for animation and related subjects, including software and hardware maintenance, studio and equipment maintenance and knowledge of VFX, XR and emerging technology, we would like to hear from you.
If you have any queries about this role or need any reasonable adjustments for your application, please contact Lesley Wilkins, Senior Resourcing Adviser, lcc.jobs@lcc.arts.ac.uk
