Description:
The post holder will be expected to participate with the current medical staff in the provision of an infection consultation service, infection rounds on specialist units, the interpretation of laboratory reports and the infection service. Team deliver leadership for Antimicrobial stewardship Infection control Community infection control Main Clinical Activities Liaison and ward/department visits to discuss individual clinical cases and infection prevention and control issues within the hospital Ward visits especially to ICU, renal, haematology and NICU/SCBU. Advice regarding diagnostic tests, antibiotic usage, interpretation of results, general patient management to GPs usually telephone advice on individual patients. Validation of and interpretation of laboratory test results.
Ward rounds and patient discussion groups Antibiotic stewardship rounds Attend clinical antibiotic guideline group and antibiotic sub group. Infection Prevention Duties Attendance at Trust Infection Control Committee (ICC) /Infection Control Operational Group(ICOG) Decontamination Operational Group(DOG) and outbreak/SUI meetings/ HCAI RCA meetings as per rota Weeklydifficilereview group/MDT and MSSA review group Advise and support the IPCNs in day-to-day activities. Water management meeting and addressing/managing issues with legionella and pseudomonas Educational and other activities This includes participation in the preparation and writing policies and SOPs; collecting and analysing audit and surveillance data; responses to various documents; writing educational PowerPoint presentations; checking minutes of meetings. Involvement in quality assurance performance within the department, including taking part in all relevant national external quality assurance (NEQAS) programmes.
Involvement in achieving and maintaining full accreditation with UKAS, or an equivalent agency. Teaching and training a wide range of health care workers Job Plan A job plan will be agreed between the appointee and the Assistant Clinical Director, on behalf of the Executive Medical Director. The job plan for the first 3 months is on average 10 programmed activities per week. Job plan rotates over 4 week cycle Week 1 - On call microbiologist Monday to Friday, this can be worked off site Week 2 Duty microbiologist, clinical and laboratory liaison, community/ hospital Week 3 - Renal, neonatal, ITU ward round, teaching, MDT, antibiotic ward round /review of antibiotic audit, Week end on call Friday to Monday Week 4 Infection control duties + attending IC meetings, update IC policy, MDT, HACI RCA meeting, audit, DCHS meetings & policy revie
