MONDAY-FRIDAY
Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora Counties Manukau is looking for a Specialty Clinical Nurse (SCN) for the National Bowel Screening Programme. The SCN will be responsible for assessing and arranging further investigations for participants who have received a positive bowel screening test result. This is a part time (0.6 FTE), permanent role, based at the Manukau Health Park.
The role will provide specialist nursing care to our participants and their whaanau, and work in partnership with the primary care team, community co-ordinators, gastroenterology and surgical team to provide integrated high quality care across the continuum.

Responsibilities:
SOME OF THE KEY DELIVERABLES OF THIS ROLE INCLUDE:
- Providing information, education, support services for participants who have a positive bowel screening test and require a colonoscopy. Understanding the complexity of issues that are involved following a positive screening test or diagnosis of bowel cancer (clinical, emotional, psychological, social, spiritual and cultural).
- Reviewing each participant’s medical history and completing a thorough nursing assessment, predominantly phone based, prior to decision making around appropriate further investigations.
- Planning, and co-ordination of care to achieve outcomes as agreed within specific protocols and MDT decisions.
- Data entry of participant’s care journey, and participant’s histology following colonoscopy.
- Developing expertise in clinical practice and nursing leadership to drive, educate and influence safe and effective quality care.
- Facilitating and supporting quality practices at all levels of the Bowel Screening services.
This is a senior nursing position that contributes clinical expertise and is a proactive member of the Bowel Screening team responsible for the development, maintenance, participation and review of quality initiatives within the Bowel Screening Programme.
