Description:

The appointments will be as a Specialty Dentist under the employment of Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
The Endodontics service is at an exciting stage of development having strategically been made a standalone service by the Dental Division. It receives referrals from predominantly primary care practitioners from the Midlands to manage pulpal and periradicular disease as outlined in the Commissioning Standard for Restorative Dentistry (NHS England 2019).
The post holder will be responsible to Dr Phillip L Tomson, Consultant in Restorative Dentistry and Head of Service for Endodontics who has managerial responsibility for the Service.
The post holder will be involved in both delivering treatment and work on new patient consultant led diagnostic and treatment planning clinics. They will manage a wide range of endodontic cases under the supervision and instruction of consultants working within the department.
The post holder will be expected to give advice and assistance to members of the junior dental staff in training within the Department as the need arises. The appointee will be expected to participate in the clinical teaching of trainees and postgraduate dental students from time to time as things develop.
Departmental administration and routine correspondence with referring Practitioners will be required, for which secretarial support is available.
The duties of this post are primarily of a service nature and as such, no specific requirement to pursue research is included. An interested appointee however, will be encouraged to pursue his or her interests, subject to the needs of the service.
Full participation in Hospital/Departmental Quality Assurance, Clinical Audit and Clinical Governance programmes will be a requirement of the post.
The post holder will be required to undergo an annual appraisal and job planning.
So far as is consistent with proper discharge of the above duties, the post holder undertakes to deputise from time to time for absent colleagues.
The post holder undertakes, exceptionally, to perform additional duties during occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.

Birmingham Dental Hospital is a teaching hospital that shares purpose built accommodation with the School of Dentistry of the University of Birmingham. It is sited at Pebble Mill at Edgbaston which is situated south of the City on the Bristol Road. The Dental Hospital provides an outpatient and a day case service with approximately 130,000 patient attendances per annum.
Birmingham Dental Hospital houses a large proportion of the dental services in the Dental Services Division of Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
All dental specialties are represented within the hospital building with consultant led services and/or university teaching departments. Excellent liaison exists with clinical and laboratory departments associated with the main medical teaching hospitals in Birmingham.
