MAIN DUTIES OF THE JOB
The role of this post is to support in the delivery of care for inpatients on General Internal Medicine (GIM). The wards cover patients with presentations including diabetes, acute frailty, medical specialties, acute senior adult care and acute assessment of ambulatory presentations both GIM and acute frailty.
The clinical level is expected to be at IMT 3 or equivalent, although this role is not recognised as an official training post by the JRCPTB or Royal College of Physicians.
The candidate must have a desire to work in the field of GIM. They should have a good experience, competencies and background of this area and be prepared to work independently with the support of consultants.
It is expected they take part in the on-call rota, but is not always required at the Trust decision, managing the acute take and providing out of hours senior input to the medical wards. Dependent on the candidates experience and current exam status will determine which rota they take part in ie IMT3 or Middle Grade.
To undertake any other duties which is deemed appropriate to the band when requested by Senior Staff
DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION AND MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
General Medicine Service:
Providing supervision, assistance and instruction to the junior medical staff e.g. Foundation trainees.
Always maintaining the highest clinical standards and in accordance with accepted good medical practice and the various clinical policies of the Service.
Transmission of relevant clinical information to other medical, technical and nursing staff both within and external to the department, regarding patients referred to other places for further treatment of follow-up.
Supervision of nursing staff in matters relating to the treatment of patients.
Teaching and supervision of medical students, nurses and Foundation level doctors working within the department.
Duties of the post are based within St Helier Hospital across the inpatient wards. Dependent on the candidate’s preference they will also be opportunity to gain experience in outpatient services in medical specialties eg; diabetes/endocrinology, rheumatology.
The Division will support the writing of abstract submissions to relevant national and international organisations for publication and presentation
The post holder accepts that they will also perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate Consultants.
he post holder is expected to provide cover for the occasional absences of colleagues as far as practicable.
The post will consist of a basic working week of 40 hours.
The above indicates the main duties of the post which may be reviewed in the light of experience and developments within the service. Any review will be undertaken in conjunction with the post-holder.
