On-Call Requirement: The senior on call rota is currently 1:12 and staffed by consultants. This post is part of an expansion in senior doctor numbers. In time this will lead to a reconfiguration of on call responsibilities, with the aspiration of separating Obstetric and Gynaecology on call duties. Depending upon experience it is anticipated that the successful applicant will contribute to on call cover.
The frequency and responsibilities of out-of-hours work will depend on the skillset of the successful applicant and the needs of the department as defined by doctor numbers and roles. The current senior on call doctor to provides cover for obstetrics and Gynaecology, which includes twice daily (8am and 8pm) ward rounds on Labour Ward in compliance with Ockendon requirements. When not on call we may ask doctors to return for an emergency in exceptional circumstances. We operate a 3 person buddy system to ensure that Labour Ward is covered for leave purposes during the week.
Weekend on-calls are swapped
