Description:
To provide senior ward cover and liaise with consultants about inpatients, provide medical support to the acute oncology service, review patients in the chemotherapy and day care units, and review other inpatients as required, who may need referral to our oncology service. There will also be regular clinics for chemotherapy reviews and assistance in other consultant clinics as needed.
- To be a key member of the oncology team with a clear role in ensuring comprehensive care for inpatients and providing cover for the acute oncology service.
- To develop enhanced clinical skills, especially in the assessment and management of acutely ill patients.
- Ward based care of inpatients on specialty wards, under the supervision of specialty consultants.
- To assist the oncology consultants in clinic reviewing patients on chemotherapy.
- Provide clinical supervision of junior doctors on medical wards and/or in the on-call team.
- To have excellent team-working skills with the abilities and professional attitude to work well in a multi-professional team.
- To deliver clinical and quality targets agreed both nationally and locally with clinical teams and commissioners.
- To be able to perform emergency procedures, such as lumbar puncture, ascitic drain and chest drains. Training can be provided around procedural competencies.
- To follow patients throughout their clinical pathways.
