DESCRIPTION

This position is a part of the Association of the Academic Staff of the University of Alberta (AASUA).
In accordance with the Temporary Librarian, Administrative and Professional Staff (TLAPO) Agreement, this position offers a comprehensive benefits package found on our Benefits Overview page and annual salary range of $67,731 - $112,811. This position has an initial appointment of one year from the date of hire with the possibility of extension.
Location - This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person. Work primarily takes place at North Campus Edmonton.

POSITION SUMMARY

The primary purpose of this position is to provide assessment and treatment services to children, teens and adults with stuttering or other communication problems. The position will primarily serve people who stutter, and focus predominantly on preschool and school-age children. A portion of the caseload may be comprised of clients in the Institute for Stuttering Treatment and Research (ISTAR’s) Communication Improvement Program (CIP) and consist of children, teens and adults who present with other speech/language problems or concerns.
The position will primarily serve clients through virtual care, on-site at ISTAR and may require some off-site travel as part of ISTAR’s outreach program or in the case of special service contracts. Other duties may include facilitating research, training, public education and fund development as assigned by the Clinic Director.

3. PARTICIPATE IN THE EDUCATION AND SUPERVISION OF STUDENTS

  • Provide occasional guest lectures on subject matter locally or as invited elsewhere
  • Participate in supervising students completing a practicum at ISTAR
  • On occasion, offer observation opportunities or consultation to students in speech pathology or related programs

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology
  • Specialized training in therapy for stuttering such as Lidcombe, Parent-Child Interaction or Camperdown including other communication disorders
  • Registration in provincial professional college and willingness to be registered in BC
  • Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to identify speech disorders by listening
  • Prior experience with fluency is considered an asset

Responsibilities:

  1. Assessment services to clients of ISTAR and CIP
  • Determine assessment modality (in-clinic or distance)
  • Schedule accordingly
  • Communicate with technicians to arrange virtual care assessments or with school personnel to arrange school assessments as requested
  • Prepare, including interviews of referring clinicians and/or teachers as appropriate
  • Conducts assessments
  • Make recommendations
  • Completes analysis and recording protocol
  • Follow-up as needed
