Description:
EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS:
- Completion of a formal post-secondary/college program of two academic years in Human Services diploma or other relevant undergraduate degree or
- Completion of a diploma in Biblical studies or equivalent education is an asset
- Certification in non-violent crisis intervention, suicide intervention, standard first aid and BCOH medication training and/or a commitment to secure those requirements within six months of hiring
- Criminal Record Check, WHMIS
- Current CPR/First Aid or willing to obtain and maintain current certification
- An alternative combination of education and experience might be considered
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLED KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS
- Three years of experience including a minimum of one year of prior related experience coordinating programs for individuals with multiple barriers living in Shelters and Transitional housing programs
- Proven experience in program development
- Ability to use Salvation Army financial management tools
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES

- Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
- Ordination or good standing in one’s faith community.

- Ability to interact individually and facilitate groups, including support groups.

- Adhere to all Salvation Army policies, directives, and operating guidelines.
- Strong interpersonal, time management and oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities:
POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:
The position is focused on developing, coordinating, and executing ministries that support individuals with multiple barriers living in Emergency Shelters and Transitional Housing programs and communities in general and build positive community partnerships in the area.
INCUMBENT MAY PERFORM ALL, SOME, OR SIMILAR RANGE OF DUTIES AS BELOW.
- Serves actively as a key member of the management team for the Belkin Communities of Hope ministry.
- Ensures that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is exemplified in the performance of all job responsibilities and through personal example
- Gives oversight to all community ministries programs, ensuring ministry objectives are consistently accomplished and that a spiritual focus is applied to all program initiatives
- Shares the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ with clients, staff and volunteers, endeavouring to assimilate them into the Body of Christ, as appropriate (including linking clients to the church family and church programs where possible)
- Contributes to the spiritual and pastoral development of individuals associated with the MU by mentoring, discipling, encouraging, and modelling appropriate Christian attitudes and behaviors
- Develops, implements, maintains and evaluates programs/ministries relevant to the MU and the community at large; plans and conducts creative worship services, evangelistic outreach, pastoral care programs (including on-going visitation), and Bible studies as applicable
- Develops and implements appropriate leadership development programs; recruits, orients and trains volunteer leaders; assists individuals in identifying and employing their spiritual gifts for the benefit of the church body
- Engages in ongoing strategic planning to ensure programming reflects client needs as these may evolve in our changing socioeconomic climate
- Works with the management team in the preparation of an operating budget for the Spiritual Care programs and monitors/manages financial performance accordingly
- Develops, recommends, implements and enforces policies and procedures for Spiritual Care programs in consultation with senior management and/or frontline supervisors
- Directs and works alongside the Chaplains
- Maintains SAMIS statistics for the Spiritual Department
- Ensures that programs meet all contractual, legal and internal accreditation requirements
- Networks with non-Salvation Army government and community social assistance and service providers to coordinate resources for the benefit of clients
- Engages and implements a local Emergency Response Plan, assisting with provincial/federal emergencies as required
- May coordinate annual fundraising efforts (Red Shield Appeal, Christmas Kettle Campaign)
- Provides visibility for The Salvation Army within the community through service club participation, media relations, general public relations, etc.
- Performs other duties as assigned
