This Sponsored Programs Analyst position reports to the Director of Research Administration and is responsible for providing pre- and post-award support; processing grants, contracts and subawards; and implementation of grants and contracts working closely with faculty, postdocs, project managers, finance, and sponsored programs. The Sponsored Programs Analyst will lead in budget preparation, reconciliation and projections for proposals and a complex series of ongoing contracts. The incumbent will exercise initiative, originality and judgement in the development, implementation and management of the nursing science research portfolio and processes for research programs management and grants administration. This position will serve a critical role in the development and maintenance of the school’s nursing science research sponsored grants and contacts portfolio.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree in related fields or equivalent work experience/training.
  • Accounting/financial management experience preparing accurate expenditure analyses, and reconciling expenses.
  • Demonstrated experience in preparing effective grant applications resulting in award funding.
  • Demonstrated experience providing financial management or related support on grants and contracts.
  • Demonstrated skills to conceptualize, organize and develop projects and systems in a collaborative team setting.
  • Knowledge/skills in budget, financial and accounting principles necessary to accurately develop budgets for grant application and other proposals.
  • Skills to manage administrative and fiscal information; and to comprehend such information to make timely and correct decisions.
  • Excellent editing and proof-reading skills.
  • Skills to gather, organize and synthesize large amounts of complex information from diverse sources to assist in the formulation of accurate and persuasive language supporting the funding of various research and academic program initiatives.
  • Knowledge or skills to read, interpret and analyze federal regulations and other sponsor guidelines; Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively communicate with a broad array of interdisciplinary/interprofessional investigators; Meticulous attention to detail; Ability to identify signs of potential issues, evaluate situations, think strategically, and develop innovative solutions.
  • Excellent computer skills to create and format spreadsheets and databases using relative cell references and pivot tables for presentation and data analysis.
  • Initiation, analytical and planning skills to formulate goals and objectives of systems and projects under development.
  • Demonstrated ability to write and think clearly, quickly and creatively.
  • Skills to understand a variety of quantitative and qualitative research methodologies and tools, requirements and general aims.
  • Excellent organizational skills to determine workload priorities to meet deadlines, and to enable timely completion of tasks.
  • Ability to work effectively and independently under pressure with a minimum of direction functioning as team coordinator or supporting team member.
  • Ability to maintain the strict confidentiality of any privileged communications and records.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s Degree
  • Skills to use UC Davis financial information systems at a high level to identify, research, report, and advise on extramural finances.
  • Knowledge of research administration in an academic setting; Detailed knowledge of Federal grant application procedures, formats, guidelines requirements, submission and review processes; Knowledge of University and UCD Health System policies and procedures governing the approval and submission of grant proposals.
  • Knowledge of UC institutional standards, advanced computer applications including word processing, spreadsheet, presentation software, database management, statistical analysis software and Internet and web browser and e-mail applications.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • This is a critical position, as defined by UC policy and local procedures, and as such, employment is contingent upon successful completion of background check(s), including but not limited to criminal record history background check(s)
  • This position is designated as a mandated reporter under CANRA and UC policy, and employment is contingent on compliance with applicable policies, procedures and training requirements
