SQL Server DBA

We are seeking an experienced SQL Server DBA to join our team in London/Bristol. As a key member of our database team, you will be responsible for the installation, administration, maintenance, and support of SQL Server databases, ensuring their performance, availability, and security. This role will also focus on migration activities to AWS, including both IaaS and RDS for SQL Server.

Responsibilities:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Administer SQL Server 2016-2019, including installation, patching, support, monitoring, backup, and recovery.
  • Assist with performance tuning, analyzing execution plans, troubleshooting, and managing indexes and statistics.
  • Troubleshoot issues and respond to s.
  • Work with clusters and assist with server issue investigations.
  • Release code and handle Change controlled requests/incidents during and outside normal working hours.
  • Collaborate across teams on ad-hoc projects.
  • Assist with PostgreSQL support as needed.
  • Support and On-Call Activities:
  • Provide support to users both during and outside normal working hours as part of a team.
  • Troubleshoot issues across various teams, conduct root cause analysis, and resolve issues.
  • Address a range of problems, from server availability issues to query coding and database configuration challenges.
  • Migration to AWS:
  • Develop strategies and plans for on-premise to AWS migrations or AWS-to-AWS migrations, with a focus on automation.
  • Create and collaborate on documentation for migration activities, identifying requirements, bottlenecks, and limitations.
  • Actively participate in migration activities.
  • WHAT YOU WILL BRING:Minimum of 6 years of hands-on experience as a database administrator of MS SQL Server in production environments.
  • Experience managing 24/7 production servers, large databases, and multiple instances.
  • Knowledge of AWS database operations and migrations, including migration strategies and execution.
  • Proficiency in creating and sizing database storage structures and objects.
  • Expertise in capacity planning, backup, recovery/DR, and database security design and implementation.
  • Advanced knowledge of SSRS, SSIS, and Power BI (a bonus).
  • Proficiency in replication methods (Log Shipping, Always On/HA, Mirroring, AG’s, WSFC).
  • PowerShell scripting or other automation techniques.
  • Familiarity with MS SQL Agent, maintenance plans, scheduled jobs, s, and DB Mail.
  • Knowledge of MSSQL features such as TDE, Compression, MDW, and DMVs.
  • Experience with Change Control and ticketing systems (e.g., ServiceNow).
