Description:

DEPARTMENT INFORMATION

The Department of Infrastructure (INF) provides high quality services to the public and Government of the Northwest Territories’ (GNWT) departments, boards and agencies including the planning, design, construction, acquisition, operation and maintenance of public transportation infrastructure and the buildings, works and equipment required for the GNWT to deliver its programs and services. INF makes essential petroleum products available for sale to the public where these products are not provided by the private sector, and promotes the development and increased use of energy efficient technologies. INF also regulates electrical and mechanical safety services and licenses individuals and vehicles operating in the territory.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP);
  • Knowledge of GNWT FAM (Financial Administration Manual) Policies and Directives;
  • Knowledge of financial planning and budget development and analysis;
  • Knowledge of financial administration procedures;
  • Knowledge and proficiency with computer systems and database concepts;
  • Organizational framework of government;
  • Sound judgment and decision making skills;
  • Good accounting and analytical skills in order to interpret and apply accounting concepts, financial terms of funding agreements and compose historical trend analysis;
  • An ability to develop PowerPoint presentations;
  • A high degree of proficiency in using various computer software packages particularly spreadsheet, database, word processing and accounting applications;
  • An above average ability to read and understand technical, legal and financial terminology in operational contracts;
    Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:
    Completion of a college diploma or equivalent post-secondary education in accounting and/or financial management. The ability to apply this knowledge is typically gained through 1-3 years of varied accounting/budgeting experience in a computerized environment.
