Job Summary:
Reporting to the Associate Director, Securities Operations, the Senior Analyst is the subject matter expert of this team and has extensive knowledge of derivatives and marketable products traded by Investment Management as well as detailed knowledge of all processes and procedures performed by the team. They must possess a general understanding of functions outside of the department to understand the downstream impact to various teams. The Senior Analyst provides guidance and direction to junior staff members particularly with respect to new products and strategies. They are responsible for reviewing and approving the work of junior staff members to ensure the accuracy, completeness and integrity of trades captured in HOOPP’s investment book of records, SimCorp Dimension is maintained. The Senior Analyst will have considerable co-ordination and liaison between the Investment Management Group, Investment Finance, fund custodians, various financial counterparties, and the IT Investment Solutions team.

QUALIFICATIONS (Education and Experience)

  • University degree in Business, Finance or related discipline
  • Completion or enrolment in a professional designation program (i.e. CFA)
  • At least 7 years of experience in a financial sector, preferably in capital market
  • Strong knowledge of capital market instruments including fixed income and equities
  • Strong knowledge of derivative instruments such as swaps, options and futures gained through industry experience
  • Strong analytical skills and results oriented
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness is very important along with the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and manage conflicting priorities
  • Knowledge of investment accounting standards & principles
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal direction as well as part of a team
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Identify and implement process improvements where necessary
  • Willing to assume other responsibilities as required
  • Relevant computer literacy is mandator

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the review and approval of daily trade capture for all capital market instruments including fixed income, equities and derivatives to ensure the integrity and accuracy is maintained.
  • Approve cash payments below $5 Million and prepare the daily cash reconciliation between HOOPP and the custodian for derivative payments.
  • Contribute to the team’s research and resolution of complex issues as they arise and identify when to further escalate the issue to the Team Lead/Associate Director.
  • Assist the interim and final audit efforts for Securities Operations by ensuring the completion of daily processes and providing necessary back up required.
  • Act as the subject matter expert on special projects assigned.
  • Perform daily and monthly reconciliations between HOOPP and custodian positions and follow-up on discrepancies.
  • Process mandatory and voluntary corporate actions for holdings in the fund.
  • Add value to Securities Operations and Investment Management by recommending processes and controls that increase efficiency and reduce operational risk.
  • Assist the Investment Accounting & Reporting Team with the accounting for all securities; assist with ensuring discrepancies are reconciled between trade capture system/accounting system, reporting system and custodian.
  • Work collaboratively with other groups in the Investment Finance Division and IT Investment solutions team with issue resolution and new initiatives.
  • Build and transfer knowledge and understanding of complex derivative strategies to Analysts on the team.
  • Act as resource to junior staff members for providing guidance and backing up critical daily activities.
  • Act as a back-up to the Team Lead, Securities Operations when necessary.
