Description:

BASIC JOB FUNCTIONS:

Perform the Company’s regular tax compliance and tax accounting work for Malaysia including Corporate Income Tax, VAT, Foreign Contractor’s Withholding Tax, and other taxes that may be applicable in country.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum BS/BA in Finance or Accounting
  • Professional qualification such as ACCA, CPA, and CA
  • 4 - 7 years of relevant work experience in a Big 4 Tax firm or a corporate income tax department
  • Experience in with taxation in Malaysia including Corporate Income Tax, VAT and Foreign Contractors Withholding Tax returns.

REQUIRED SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:

  • English fluency in verbal and written communication
  • Self-motivated
  • Aptitude for learning & utilizing systems.
  • Need to be independent and hands-on.
  • Ability to adapt in a changing work environment.
  • Good analytical mindset
  • Team player
  • Knowledge of local company laws and income tax regulations
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Access, Power Point and etc.
  • Preferable with local & US GAAP knowledge
  • Knowledgeable in any major ERP systems, i.e., SAP

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (IF ANY):

  • Will sit, stand, or walk short distances for up to the entire duration of a shift.
  • Will climb stairs on an occasional basis.
  • Will lift, push, or pull up to 27 pounds on an occasional basis.
  • Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects on a frequent basis.
  • 20/40 vision in each eye, with or without correction, is required.
  • Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures.
  • May reach above shoulder heights and below the waist on a frequent basis.
  • May stoop, kneel, or bend, on an occasional basis.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to, steel toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective jacket or apron and arm guards)
  • All associates working on the production floor may be required to wear a respirator at any given time and thus, the ability to wear a respirator is a condition of employment and continued employment (requires little or no facial hair)

Responsibilities:

  • Complete month-end closing processes by ensuring proper recording of taxes payable/refundable, reconciliation of tax filing returns to financial records and analysis of fluctuations in tax accounts.
  • Ensure compliance with various Sarbanes-Oxley internal controls and local GAAP reporting.
  • Facilitate and work with local tax advisors to ensure all direct and indirect tax compliance, Foreign Contractors’ Withholding tax, VAT are filed timely and in accordance with local regulations.
  • Provide support to and work with local tax advisors on tax related queries/request from Tax Authority
  • Ensure completed tax filings are updated in the tax calendar.
  • Organize and facilitate tax payments to be made timely per deadlines.
  • Quarterly review of direct and indirect tax for potential contingencies and recommendation of accrual for contingencies identified.
  • Coordinate and work with Accounts Payable/Accounts Receivable/General Ledger team to ensure tax entries are recorded correctly upon transaction posting in ERP system.
  • Assist in tax code set up and maintenance of tax codes in ERP system.
  • Participate in Tax Department’s process improvement initiatives.
  • Create Purchase Request for tax fees in ERP system for payment to service providers.
  • Assist and support the tax department with other assignments and administrative tasks as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with Quality, Environment, Health and Safety and Responsible Business Alliance policies and procedures that is enforced within the organization.
  • Other duties as assigned.
