JOB SUMMARY:

Title: Senior Chemist/Engineer, Personal Care
Location: U.S. | Hoffman Estates | Illinois
Compensation: $95k-$110k salary
This position is in the Personal Care R&D group, which is part of our Household & Personal Care business product line and within the Consumer & Specialties segment of MTI. Our Personal Care Group is active in natural and synthetic delivery agents, delivery of Rx and cosmetic active ingredients to the skin, rheology enhancing clay-based products, personal care formulation development and contract manufacturing at our site in Lafayette, LA. We are a leading supplier of retinoid-based ingredients and finished products. We formulate and manufacture clinically evaluated cosmetic and Rx grade products focused on improving skin health (i.e. anti-aging, acne treatment, mattifying, and sun protection) via delivery of active ingredients and our proprietary delivery agents.
Our ideal candidate has the ability to prepare microparticle delivery systems with Rx and cosmetic active ingredients, has experience using clays to modify rheology and well-honed skills in preparing personal care formulations. They should be able to execute physical and chemical experiments and tests in a lab, pilot plant, or plant setting and possess knowledge of the bench to pilot to manufacturing formulation transfer process.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Be able to independently conduct the development of next generation delivery agents and ingredients/raw materials to support proof of concept testing, stability, development of formulation guidelines, clinical efficacy and safety testing and intellectual property development and management.
  • Manage a multitude of projects simultaneously and be able to adjust work priorities as customer and business needs change.
  • Be a bridge to our manufacturing teams in Lafayette, LA and Belle Fourche, SD to ensure manufacturing readiness, and successful product transfer from laboratory to manufacturing, and development of procedures to meet commercialization timelines.
  • Active participant working on multiple research and development projects, using Hoshin Kanri methodology.
  • Recognizes, uses and follows all corporate safety policies and procedures.
  • Engages in a positive workplace environment that fosters continuous improvement and relentless problem solving.
  • Active participant in activities relating to key company initiatives: EHS, OE, Expense Reduction, and NPPD (New Product and Process Development).
