PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE IN LABOR & DELIVERY IS REQUIRED.

Shift: Primarily daytime hours, Monday through Friday, with variable hours. On-call hours required
Sign on Bonus: $15,000 sign on bonus eligible for nurses with over a year of experience.
Overview: The Sr. Clinician is a highly skilled nursing professional who serves as a role model in clinical practice, education, and evidence-based practice. This role involves leading complex practice improvements, collaborating with management to promote excellence in nursing care, and contributing to staff evaluations, hiring, and performance management. The Sr. Clinician is responsible for the delivery of nursing care, applying advanced clinical knowledge to improve patient outcomes and work environments. They also provide education and clinical support to staff, ensuring care is tailored to the specific needs of patients across the lifespan. Additionally, they are committed to the community and the nursing profession.

Responsibilities:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Team Building & Mentorship: Develops productive relationships through mentoring, positive communication, and addressing cultural diversity and workplace issues. Coaches on healthy lifestyles, time management, and safe work hours.
Development & Education: Mentors and educates colleagues, impacting patients, peers, and the healthcare team. Acts as a preceptor for students and new nurses, fostering continuous learning and knowledge sharing.
Performance Improvement: Demonstrates expertise in performance improvement tools and techniques, improving care quality and work environment. Shares improvements across units and the system.
Patient Care: Applies nursing knowledge through Relationship-Based Care, addressing clinical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs. Communicates effectively, documents comprehensively, and practices critical thinking in patient care.

Leadership & Change Management: Serves as a leader in clinical practice, driving improvement opportunities, supporting staff during transitions, and participating in shared leadership. Assumes leadership in quality improvement, evidence-based practice, and peer review processes.

  • Four years of nursing experience required.
  • Prior progressive leadership experience strongly preferred for external hires.
  • BS/BSN required. Master’s degree in Nursing required if the BS degree is not in nursing. If BSN is held, a Master’s degree in a related field is required, or a UPMC-approved nursing certification must be obtained within 1 year of hire/transfer and maintained.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary/support staff, other departments, and patients/families.
  • Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment.
  • Capable of handling multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.
  • Exemplary clinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving abilities required for various aspects of patient care.
  • Critical thinking skills necessary to lead others in applying the nursing process.
  • Mobility, visual manual dexterity, and physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients.
  • Demonstrated competence as a Professional Staff Nurse.
  • Ability to provide care and interact appropriately with patients of all ages, understanding the principles of growth and development over the lifespan.
  • Capable of assessing and interpreting patient data to meet age-specific needs as outlined in department policies and procedures.LICENSURE, CERTIFICATIONS, AND CLEARANCES:
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • UPMC approved nursing certification required within 1 year of hire/transfer and must be maintained.
  • Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
