Description:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma/GED supplemented by specialized training in code enforcement, building codes, zoning regulations or a related field.
  • Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience enforcing municipal ordinances and codes, animal care and control, animal welfare, or related experience depending on assignment.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, an Animal Control Officer Basic Certification through the Texas Department of State Health Services within six (6) months of hire.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain an Euthanasia Certification within four (4) months of hire.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual skills (English/Spanish).

  • Basic report-writing techniques and Microsoft Word, Excel and data entry experience, in addition to, PetPoint or other shelter software.
  • Basic understanding/experience of animal care to include daily cleaning procedures and animal health.
  • Basic knowledge of intake and adoptions procedures

Responsibilities:

  • Follow State Laws and local ordinances concerning the care and treatment of animals.
  • Assist animal control supervisors in mentoring/coaching and evaluating lower level technical and/or clerical staff.
  • Pick up and impound stray, sick, injured, unwanted, abandoned, and diseased animals.
  • Perform special assignments specific to animal welfare, including: animal observations, ensuring animals have appropriate food, water and clean environments.
  • Conduct regular inventory of shelter supplies and submit orders for approval in a time efficient manner. Update animals inventory daily and assist with morning capacity.
  • Perform euthanasia of sick, injured or un-adopted impounded animals.
  • Conduct regular inspections of Pods and animals and report issues in real time with management.
  • Act in place in absence of supervisor by assisting customers and directing staff in daily operations.
