We currently have an opportunity for a Senior Commodity Manager to join our Global Supply Chain team where you’ll take responsibility for strategic sourcing, critical supplier management and stakeholder management for assigned commodities, developing long-term business strategies aligned with key stakeholders. This role is based at our Staverton, Gloucestershire site but will involve travel both domestically and internationally.

The Role:

You’ll be accountable for managing critical supplier agreements, strategic sourcing, monitoring, evaluating and improving supplier performance, developing the supplier base, and conducting research to support the commodity strategy, you’ll lead all strategic sourcing initiatives for the assigned commodities, and act as a change agent, focusing on delivering the highest value to internal and external customers at the lowest cost.

  • Responsible for commodity strategy related to assigned commodities including: sourcing strategy, spend segmentation, supply market analysis, supplier capability assessment, supplier recruitment and management, RFI/P/Q development, developing a business case for improved supply and or service, risk assessment and management, while managing assigned commodities or services across multiple sites
  • Ability to lead and drive execution of supply chain strategies in a collaborative and multi-site matrix environment to achieve both tactical and strategic goals.
  • Applies knowledge of commodities/commodity market trends, serves as expert in influencing/leading/driving project implementation of supply chain strategies, and develops short/long-term goals for management consideration in support of customer requirements.
  • Responsible for multi-site negotiations and executions of sourcing agreements for assigned commodities and/or services.
  • Negotiate strategic agreements and drive cost, quality, delivery and service improvements across multiple departments and sites continuously.
  • Uses analytical and qualitative methods to analyze market commodities and product data.
  • Demonstrate full knowledge and serve as a technical leader for assigned commodities and supply chain services.
  • Organize, facilitate, and manage cross-functional teams to develop commodity and service strategies.
  • Work with Product Line Adoptions and Program Management Office (PMO) to ensure sourcing decisions achieve overall commodity objectives and alignment for Supply Chain transitions.
  • Travel to supplier locations to evaluate capabilities, capacity, assess production readiness, investigate new opportunities, improve manufacturing efficiencies, and resolve chronic supply and quality issues.
  • Travel to Ontic’s operating locations in support of the above activities.

To be successful in this role you’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related Engineering or Operations field AND a minimum of 3 years directly demonstrated experience in managing commodities and/or a combination of related supply chain experience.
  • Demonstrated strong and effective negotiating, analytical and presenting skills.
  • Demonstrated proficient knowledge of the workings of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software.
  • A demonstrated knowledge of Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRPII)/Master Production Schedule (MPS) process.
  • Significant technical knowledge within the commodity managed.
  • Demonstrated experience assessing requirements, negotiating and executing supply contracts and/or service agreements with a focus on maximizing PPV.
  • Extensive experience assessing all supply chain attributes with a focus on maximizing PPV over long term programs.
  • Proven knowledge and understanding of the global markets that impact the managed commodity.
  • The ability to understand, analyze and use components of costs in driving cost savings and efficiency.
  • Ability to identify new sources and technologies quickly and efficiently as requested by Engineering Design teams and perform advanced due diligence including technical capabilities, audits, commercial assessments, supply chain verification, capacity constraints and establishing a preferred customer status.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare for, coordinate, manage and execute QBR’s and Quarterly Negotiations where required.
