Sr Construction Supervisor(Mechanical), Conklin, AB(Contract)
Reporting to the Site Construction Manager, Facilities Projects, the Senior Construction Supervisor position will be an energetic self-starter, performing a critical role, directly supervising and providing support as it relates to construction activities performed by contractor support staff including safety, quality, cost, scheduling, etc. while ensuring that the construction schedule is maintained.
The Senior Construction Supervisor position will also bring a significant Piping & Mechanical background, allowing for expertise and oversight on coordination and inspection activities. This position will allow the successful candidate to be creative, building cross-functional relationships, contributing to Meg Energy’s Construction Execution plan by effectively planning work, applying previous experiences and expertise and build a Best-in-Class Construction team.

This is a Fly-In, Fly-Out camp-based position working on a 7x7 rotation (Tuesday - Tuesday), flying out of Calgary or Edmonton.
Please note, this is a 12-month contract position with compensation as a straight hourly rate. There is the opportunity for contract renewal
Your day-to-day will include:
- Demonstrate and lead a strong safety culture within the MEG Energy’s organization, including employees, vendors, service providers, and the contractors we engage with.
- Direct, supervise and support construction activities performed by our contractors to achieve expectations of safety, quality, cost, and schedule.
- Oversee and coordinate the task execution of multiple contractors working simultaneously across MEG’s Christina Lake Regional project, consistent with our Operating Priorities.
- Participate in key design reviews and provide expert knowledge and support on design constructability.
- Assist in developing contracting strategies and selection, and support development of detailed construction execution plans/schedules that fit in the overall program schedule.
- Develop close working relationships with all contractors’ disciplines, while putting extra focus on the piping\mechanical aspects of our projects, to ensure our construction processes and procedures are always being adhered to.
- Liaise with Operations or Commissioning staff to ensure turnovers are executed effectively.
- Find opportunities to advance schedules by coordinating concurrent activities by all groups.
- Ensure all Hold and Witness points for construction per our Piping\Mechanical Inspection Test Plans (ITP’s) are executed consistently.
- Execute responsibilities for safety incident management when required. Includes: conducting on site investigations, writing follow-up reports, and identifying actions.
- Supervise construction productivity to ensure assigned contractors and subcontractors’ performance are within expectations.
- Schedule work to be performed, and review work accomplished by each contractor.
- Review and plan contractors subcontract needs; and reviews schedules, construction methods and procedures.
- Prepare progress reports and forecasts, including summaries of construction progress, job manpower forecasts, and execution issues.
- Coordinate and continually monitor rental equipment needs for each contractor by project.
- Perform other general functions inherent in all supervisory field positions as directed by the Construction Manager.
What you will bring to MEG:
- A Red Seal Steamfitter\Pipefitter Journeyman Certification, obtained through a recognized indentured apprenticeship program.
- CET Designation from an accredited institution.
- Experience in safety leadership, with hands-on experience applying safety management programs to active construction sites.
- Experience working with diverse communities and groups.
- A minimum of 10 years’ experience with coordinating field construction projects for an Industrial site.
- Familiarity with and understanding all phases of field-based construction, all engineering disciplines, all construction technologies, and jobsite management.
- Experience with Construction Management on project values exceeding $100 million.
- Working knowledge of relevant Regulations and Codes, such as B31.3, Z662, API, etc.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, networking, and collaboration skills.
- Excellent analytical, project/time management and organizational skills.
- An eye for identifying efficiency improvements and cost reduction strategies.
- Strong facilitation skills effective at achieving alignment among multi-disciplined work groups at all organizational levels is required.
- Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills are required.
- Ability to work independently, multi-task, and manage competing priorities, effectively in a changing environment and within defined timelines is critical.
- Self-starter, with the ability to work both with a team or independently.
