Description:

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Kress is looking for a full-time Sr. Design Engineer to join our team in the development of specialized industrial equipment for steel, construction and mining industries. Our Sr. Design Engineers perform activities to complete moderately complex design projects to satisfy customer and/or engineering orders. This position’s primary focus will be on hydraulic system design.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Engineering projects including hydraulic system design
  • Development of new products or expansion of current product line and prepare technical objectives and specifications
  • Review instructions received from Project Engineering Manager and perform necessary design and development studies to determine best approach to the design
  • Create or modify hydraulic system schematics for projects
  • Participate in selection of hydraulic system components
  • Confirm hydraulic system components meet industry standard regulations, including other countries
  • Perform calculations to determine requirements for hydraulic system components
  • Prepare layouts and details of hydraulic system assemblies and sub-assemblies
  • Participate in design reviews
  • Keep management informed of progress of project and problems encountered. Initiate design reviews and make changes where necessary
  • Maintain and update project documentation
  • Maintain contact with Purchasing regarding component needed, specifications, quality, cost and availability
  • Manage design costs and manufacturability
  • Provide timely, accurate engineering information and communicate to other departments
  • Recommend changes for updating engineering standards and procedures
  • Utilize existing design, reference material and standards to develop hydraulic systems
  • Revise prior designs to bring them up to date with new guidelines and standards
  • Work with Manufacturing regarding difficulties encountered during build and participate in troubleshooting hydraulic system issues encountered
  • Provide Engineering assistance to Product Support & Marketing and customers as needed, some travel may be required

Experience and Qualification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Five years’ prior experience in construction, mining or off-highway equipment
  • Two-three years prior experienced in selection of hydraulic system components
  • Must be proficient in reading hydraulic schematics
  • Modeling experience a plus (SolidEdge, Creo and UG NX)
  • Hydraulic hose and tube routing experience a plus
  • Hydraulic hose and tube manufacturing knowledge a plus
  • Intermediate understanding of Microsoft Office
