The Senior Director, Human Resources, NPK, will be reporting to the Vice President, HRBP and is responsible to lead the HR Business Partner functions for the Nitrogen, Phosphate, and Potash (NPK) Business Units. This leadership position supports the enablement of the business strategy through the development and implementation of leading-edge human capital strategies and programs. The role is accountable to establish the performance expectations and measurements to ensure we are transforming the current operating model in support of providing best in class people initiatives. This role integrates across the NPK Business Units and organizational hierarchy to establish a management operating system to attract, retain and develop our talent and deploy an employee experience that makes Nutrien an employer of choice. Please note that there is a preferred candidate for this role.
This strategic Senior Director provides leadership across all areas of NPK. This position will partner closely with the COE to ensure effective program designs and implementation for NPK. This will include partnering closely with Total Rewards on compensation and benefit programs, working with Talent Attraction to attract top talent and collaborating with Talent Development on succession and career development programs and the HRSC to ensure service excellence.
This leader’s focus will be enabling the business strategy. The successful incumbent must be a process-focused global HR leader, with a proven track record in designing and implementing game-changing people programs for sustainable business growth across multiple geographies. This role requires a combination of strong strategic and analytical orientation, dynamic leadership capability, excellent HR communication skills, change management expertise, and the proven ability to collaborate and influence across all levels of the organization. Given the changing environment, this role is instrumental in working with the business to coordinate and oversee large-scale organization transformation while designing and implementing programs and practices to support Nutrien’s business strategy.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership to the NPK HRBP team with a focus on career development, performance management, and employee engagement.
  • Manage a high-performance culture by actively coaching and mentoring direct reports, providing regular feedback, and developing employees for wider roles and responsibilities to foster professional growth and development
  • Assist with the integration and change processes as the company meets the challenges of growth and the need to scale including M&A activity
  • Participate in recruitment of senior leadership, sit on interview panels, providing critical feedback and thoughtful analysis to select top talent.
  • Conduct succession planning and talent assessment conversations with senior leadership to ensure we are proactively managing the employee lifecycle by prudently managing performance and identifying and developing successors.
  • Partner with COE and leadership to create and execute on effective people strategies, programs, and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Total Rewards to drive consistent and effective compensation and benefits programs throughout the NPK business units.
  • Work with leaders to anticipate, request and design the scope of future human capital requirements based on business, industry, and market conditions.
  • Provide direction and input to COE to ensure the design and deployment of HR initiatives meet the needs of the NPK business units and work closely with leaders to implement them accordingly.
  • Demonstrate expert knowledge around HR initiatives, strategy, and policies
  • Expand HR strategies to have more of a global focus
  • Champion and drive diversity and inclusion initiatives by working closely with COE and leadership to create positive change and improve culture.
  • In partnership with the Director of Labour Relations, HR managers and site leaders, engage in meaningful dialogue with Union leaders to foster a positive working relationship to understand needs of the union and its members while preserving management’s right to operate efficiently and effectively
  • Utilizing change management philosophy, work with client group leaders to design future state changes (people, process, and structure), prepare change plans, and engage with leaders to implement.
  • Apply critical thinking and thought leadership to diagnose complex performance issues and work with business leaders to prepare solutions and support implementation.
  • Understand the business units and their challenges to help address the organization and people needs including organizational structures, organizational effectiveness, and team and individual performance
  • Work with client groups to champion the enterprise culture of continuous improvement by ensuring the appropriate talent structure, engagement model, performance management and recognition systems are in place.
  • Foster a culture of care, where employee safety and happiness are a top priority.
  • Create a positive team dynamic by rewarding and recognizing team members and organizing team building activities.
