Description:
As a member of the UPMC pharmacy leadership team, the Senior Director Pharmacy Operations is responsible for assuring that pharmacy services are provided in a safe and efficient manner resulting in positive outcomes for patients. This role champions inter-functional collaboration and communication across work areas and departments. With the VP of Pharmacy Service Line and other corporate support teams as well as Directors of Pharmacy and Infusion Clinics he/she implements the strategic initiatives and executes on strategy. Strategic imperatives involve revenue growth, internal retail and specialty pharmacy capture, integration and standardization of operations, tele-pharmacy remote order programs, and coaching and development of leaders.
Responsibilities:
- Monitors and develops continuous improvement in management, inventory control, utilization management, and staffing efficiency while achieving quality outcomes.
- Coordinates and monitors the pharmacy systems and processes to achieve ongoing operational and service improvements.
- Recommends cost containment programs, policies, and/or procedures to improve efficiency, economy, and effectiveness.
- Leads monitoring of labor and staffing of all sites in alignment with tele-pharmacy remote order verification programs.
- Leverages technology and automation to load balance work across enterprise.
- Monitors annual operating budgets for the areas of responsibility, compares actual and budgeted activity, and explains variances.
- Champions inter-functional collaboration and communication across work areas and departments.
- Leads system pharmacy policy and procedure; ensures adherence to hospital, health system, and departmental policies and procedures and applicable state and federal laws. Enforces medical center and departmental policies and procedures and ensures compliance with pertinent state and federal laws and regulations.
- Creates long-range leadership succession planning for pharmacy leadership roles as well as oversees enterprise residency strategy with a focus on the Health System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership (PGY1/PGY2) program.
- Leads short- and long-term organizational planning as a member of the corporate pharmacy system team.
- Provides subject matter expertise with internal audit reviews and pharmacy corporate compliance and risk areas.
- Leads special projects and business analyses.
- Performs ongoing assessment, review, and update of departmental procedures, processes, and workflow to produce high-quality, cost-effective delivery of products and services, using advanced skills within Microsoft Excel, PowerBI, and data analytics.
- Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) required
- At least seven years of progressively responsible experience and proven success in an acute hospital pharmacy role
- Advanced degree in Healthcare or Business Administration or similar (MS, JD, etc.) required
- Health System Pharmacy Administration Leadership (HSPAL) Residency preferred
