MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent work experience and training in position of similar capacity with a minimum of 3 years’ experience.
  • In lieu of education, a minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience.
  • Demonstrated management experience working within the Engineering Department and/or Structures / Facilities Construction, Maintenance, Project Management, estimating or budgets.
  • Demonstrated experience in at least one (1) of the following areas: Mechanical (i.e. HVAC, Plumbing, Elevators, Escalators), Electrical (i.e. Lighting, Distribution, Substation).
  • Demonstrated Supervisory experience with at least one (1) of the following areas: Facilities Equipment, Mechanical & Electrical Systems, Instrumentation and Controls System and Inspection, Maintenance and/or Construction.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience and ability to interface with all levels of employees including both external and internal customers.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and applied experience in railroad operations, operating rules, and divisional operating processes and procedures.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of project management including scheduling, budgeting, estimating, and coordinating efforts with other technical disciplines.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience with MS Office, creating spreadsheets, presentations, memorandums, and utilizing other applications to perform job functions.
  • Valid driver’s license.

  • Strong leadership required, encompassing effective communication, motivation, and team building/team performance skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent work experience and training in position of similar capacity, with a minimum of 6 years of experience.
  • In lieu of education, a minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer or ability to acquire.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Track, C&S and ET departments and track usage process.

COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
The salary/hourly range is $100,000 - $110,408 for the Field Engineer position and $115,000 - $126,969 for the Sr Field Engineer position. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, internal equity, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Responsibilities:

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Provides technical, logistical and administrative support to the B&B Assistant Division Engineer for the efficient and cost effective management of Facilities construction and maintenance and operations projects and program. Daily tasks will include responsibilities in both the office and the field in all types of weather conditions to support a 24/7 operation. Territories of Mid-Atlantic South Division are Washington, Perryville and Baltimore.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Ensures all B&B Systems and facilities program and projects are installed using the department’s guidelines and that equipment components structures and facilities maintenance and construction projects and programs support existing schedule and maintain a safe and dependable environment.
  • Must be intricately knowledgeable of Facilities Federal, State and Local codes, standards and systems operation and maintenance requirements.
  • Responsible for the development of work activities, budget estimates funding, spend plan and the project schedule.
  • Responsible for the planning, execution and closeout of maintenance, construction and operations projects and with other departments.
  • Control staffing and force levels by advertising/abolishing craft positions.
  • Ensures regular Facilities inspections are made of all systems and the summary maintenance reports are provided to appropriate Amtrak management and to the other required agencies where required.
  • Ensures all aspects of the physical plant and facilities meet or exceeds current standards, local state and federal codes and regulations.
  • Monitors the procurement status of all material and ensures the proper delivery storage and installation of materials.
  • Provides input to the Safety and Emergency Response Plans for the Division.
  • Implements safety work plans for the prevention & elimination of personal injuries and hazardous conditions on Amtrak property and right-of-way.
  • Ensure regulatory inspections are compliant with Amtrak policies and the FRA CFR. Comply with FRA, local, and national codes for construction and maintenance of bridges and buildings.
