Description:

POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible to work in the histopathology laboratory receiving different samples for histology and cytology, perform immune histochemistry or special stains on samples a and arrange all the processes to either perform them in-house under the supervision of Senior Technologist, or send them out as per the protocol explained for Outsourced Lab.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Sciences major in histopathology or histopathology/cytology

POSITION CRITERIA OTHER SKILLS/ABILITIES

Must have a valid UAE MOH or SHA License

  • Must have a valid UAE MOH License
  • Minimum 3 years experience in Histology and Cytology of Hospital Pathology laboratory
  • Maintains laboratory equipment with high technical efforts, and inventory for supplies, chemicals, reagents and maintaining up-to-date quality control and/or quality assurance records.
  • Sets up and operates laboratory equipment in preparation

Responsibilities:

SUMMARY OF MAIN DUTIES

  • Actively participates in upholding and promoting the vision and culture of University Hospital – Sharjah (UHS)
  • Participates in all aspects of the International Accreditation program to assist UHS attain and maintain international accreditation standards
  • Participates in commissioning assigned areas and associated Clinical areas
  • Performs a variety of high complexity technical procedures that results in the creation of microscopic slide preparations for study by the pathologist. Technical procedures may include, but are not limited to the following;
  • Specimen collection, receiving and accession performing routine computerized function (LIS)
  • Gross examination of specimens under pathologist supervision and/or help the pathologist in grossing
  • Participates in all aspects of the International Accreditation program to assist UHS attain and maintain international accreditation standards
  • Participates in commissioning assigned areas and associated Clinical areas
  • Performs a variety of high complexity technical procedures that results in the creation of microscopic slide preparations for study by the pathologist. Technical procedures may include, but are not limited to the following;
  • Specimen collection, receiving and accession performing routine computerized function (LIS)

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Gross examination of specimens under pathologist supervision and/or help the pathologist in grossing
  • Automated and manual specimen processing techniques for histology and cytology
  • Microtomy techniques
  • Routine and special stains for histology and cytology
  • Frozen section techniques
  • Files patient blocks, slides and specimens
  • Prepare patient specimen material for outside referral and maintain record for material sent out of the laboratory
  • File all supporting documents, i.e. work patch sheets, logs etc.
  • Maintains inventory records and notifies the supervisor of low stock
  • Complies and bear responsibilities with all UHS and UHS Lab policies and procedures, health & safety and fire regulations
  • Works any shift as per the duty roster of the Pathology and Laboratory Department when designated
