Description:
The Sr. Manager of Production and Logistics (SMPL) oversees the production and operations of our roasted coffee at Verve from the moment it is roasted to the time it ships to the customer. The SMPL is responsible for getting our production from roasting to packaging to fill all orders. This is a leadership role, responsible for all Verve?s production schedules and batch orders required for the Roastery teams and manages all packaging, shipping, and logistics across the order cycle.
The SMPL oversees all Santa Cruz Headquarter manufacturing operations and outside co-manufacturing operations for roasted coffee production and fulfillment for all our revenue channels, including wholesale, grocery, retail, and online orders. The SMPL communicates and strategizes cross-functionally to ensure production and fulfillment are accurate and on time to our national and international customers. They are a strategic thinker, always looking for ways to improve their team?s efforts, create streamlined workflows and process diagrams, and are flexible to respond with urgency when unexpected situations arise.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid California Driver’s License
- Coffee production knowledge is a plus
- Leads by example and willing to work in a hands-on environment
- Lean Manufacturing principles
- Proven understanding of shipping and logistics formats for a manufacturing and wholesale business
- A demonstrated ability to motivate the team in the face of adversity and changing objectives
- Must be approachable and mindful with a positive attitude
- Comfortable with basic troubleshooting of equipment
- Ability to give and receive constructive feedback in any given situation
- Analytical aptitude; logical and methodical approach to problem solving
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.

- Provide leadership, coaching and mentoring to department members through talent acquisition, retention, development, and operations.
- Flexible with the ability to multitask in a highly demanding environment
- Must have or be willing to obtain forklift certification
- Ability to travel 10% annually mainly to Distribution Facilities as needed. Perhaps the East Coast to help with setting up the new manufacturing site.

EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor?s Degree or equivalent work experience preferred
- 5 years manufacturing leadership experience over multiple departments
- 3 years administrative experience with production and logistics systems
- 3 years overseeing operational excellence with documented metrics (KPIs)
- Prior experience with Google Workspace, Excel, QuickBooks, Access, VisualCron, Shopify and Shipstation a plus

Responsibilities:
- Oversee all fulfillment and logistics of roasted coffee, RTD, manufactured goods, and ancillary products from the packaging line to the customer.
- Oversees accurate forecasting and demand planning with management of sales data and historic information. Use this information to plan labor needs and production schedules.
- Collaborate with other departments to align production with business needs.
- Sets up a par inventory production and depletion system, based on Verve?s freshness standards for each of the channels (Grocery, Wholesale, Retail, Ecommerce)
- Support the strategic production plans to focus on sustainability and scalability, consistent with department head and company strategic planning.
- Participating in company-driven processes and systems that will scale efficiently as we continue to grow, driving down cost, and adhering to budgets, while maintaining the highest overall quality standards.
- Define, Manage, and weekly analysis of KPIs in the Production Feedback Form to encourage constant improvement of processes.
- Assist in creating new SOPs and redefine processes for growth and ensure SOPs, GMPs are updated and followed by team members
- Responsible for all warehouse certifications and GMP standards, including all health and safety regulations.
- Oversee the organization and cleanliness of the warehouse and production areas.
- Implement and maintain effective storage solutions to maximize space, efficiency, and overall cleanliness.
- Maintain a culture of safety, open communication, quality, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure the company?s brand is properly reflected by keeping a well-maintained, clean, and organized working area.
- Oversee all packaging and logistics equipment operations, including equipment calibration and maintenance schedules, quality, compliance, and sanitation standards for the production & warehouse facilities.
- Review Shipping/Logistics practices and procedures, including Verve distribution routes and carrier costs to ensure on-time-in-full compliance as close to 100% while reducing costs YoY.
- Ensure accurate documentation of all incoming and outgoing shipments. Maintain detailed records of shipping and receiving activities.
- Oversee additional shipping and distribution of items for customer fulfillment, including Ready to Drink, Instant, Tea, and other merchandise and ancillary products.
- Oversee Verve?s Route distribution team, managing their efficiencies and effectiveness as well as maintenance and tracking tools of Verve?s trucks and routes.
- Collaborate with HR and the Training Departments to recruit and develop the Production and Roasting teams; hiring, scheduling, and establishing curriculum.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback.
- Address performance issues and execute disciplinary actions, including terminations when necessary.
- Execute departmental end-of-month procedures
- Member of Verve?s internal Health and Safety Team
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Growth Officer
