SR Payroll Specialist
Full Time, Permanent
Hybrid– Scarborough ON
Purpose
Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Payroll Specialist will provide leadership to the organization’s payroll function. This role is a customer focused position, providing payroll services and expert advice to employees and managers.

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

  • Minimum 5 years of payroll experience in a related industry with hourly and salaried employees. Experience in a large, in-house payroll environment considered an asset.
  • Post-secondary education or equivalent work experience.
  • PCP certification is required; CPM designation is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of both Canadian and US payroll legislation, Employment Standards, Taxation rules and year end reporting processes.
  • Experience working in a Payroll/HCM integrated system, as well as ERP system required. Experience working with Ceridian Dayforce is a bonus.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and customer services skills including interactions at all levels of the organization.
  • Exceptional time management skills and ability to meet very strict deadlines.
  • Exceptional analytical skills and attention to detail.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage end-to-end payroll execution for hourly and salaried employees on a bi-weekly basis in a Ceridian Dayforce Payroll environment (both Canadian and US).
  • Process and balance payroll adjustments, earnings, deductions, taxes, including but not limited to ROE’s, severance payments, remittances, garnishments, etc.
  • Prepare third party remittance requisitions, reporting, file submissions and reconciliations.
  • Work with Finance to ensure month-end deadlines are met and all payroll-related accounts are reconciled in a timely manner, including the preparation of payroll journals.
  • Ensures all internal and external inquiries are responded to in a timely manner, and problems are resolved promptly, delivering excellent customer service standards as the main payroll point of contact.
  • Manage year-end processes, includingT4and W-2adjustments and/or reconciliations.
  • Stay on top of all developments in Canadian and American payroll tax legislative changes, federally and provincially.
  • Conduct regular audits of payroll data to identify trends and gaps.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives to ensure efficiency and identify any areas of improvement.
  • Liaison with Finance, Human Resources on tax and payroll accounting matters, consulting, advising, and partnering as appropriate.
  • Liaison with auditors on all payroll related audit inquiries.
  • Participate in Dayforce HCM initiatives and other ad hoc projects as required. Other duties as assigned
