While reporting to the Plant HR Manager, you will be responsible for the HR function within Elk Grove Facility. The Sr. Plant HR Generalist must be a driven and engaged leader focused on providing solutions to business challenges and developing a high performing culture. The ability to collaborate across all levels will be a significant factor for success in this role. This role will be available across multiple shifts throughout the week and will flex hours based off those shifts.

What you’ll be doing:

  • You will implement and oversee the effective practice of HR policy, procedures and processes with direction for the Field HR organization; collaborate with regional HR and/or corporate HR resources to ensure compliance and alignment with company protocols.
  • Leads plant orientation programs engaging with plant leadership and reviews program for world class performance. Collaborates with additional plant team members engaged in the orientation program.
  • Assists employees with onboarding processes, documentation and I-9 verification; provides employees training with Workday (HRIS) and SIMON (ServiceNow) login processes as well as navigation, enrolling and explaining benefits.
  • Manages random drug testing, pre-employment and background check process
  • Supports hourly payroll function and looks for opportunities for process improvement.
  • Processes Workday hourly hires to include issuing badges, updating Kronos information and finalizing hire information.
  • Books, schedules and manages plant interview processes, ensures positive candidate experience through collaboration with assigned Recruiting Partner.
  • Manages required assessment testing for hires, pre-employment and internal progression.
  • Key member of plant Continuous Skills Development (CSD) team and provides support to ensure plant meets their intended goals. May be involved in maintenance of Element Trees, SWFL, in house development assessments and Sonoco University training. Other duties as assigned.
  • Monitor temp employee time and converts temps to full time employees where necessary.
  • Responds to onsite immediate disciplinary issues, however notifies HR Generalist of key issues, and will consult when needed. Will assist with investigations involving HR Generalist.
  • Provides coaching to hourly employees.
  • Allows opportunities for employees to voice concerns and relays information to Plant Management staff.
  • Manages employee appreciation programs, attendance tracking and progression processes.
  • Holds employee training including orientation, employee morale surveys, benefits reviews; maintains employee files electronically and paper.
  • Supports plants with internal customer audits including but not limited to SMETA audits.
  • Uses SIMON services to process any job changes and completes Workday data entry. Processes termination requests. Provides guidance to employees on Sonoco’s resources and finds opportunities to provide additional training.
  • Administers FMLA program by tracking leave and issuing correct forms and information are provided to employees. Ensures management staff understands Sonoco’s FMLA and leave processes.
  • Recruits, manages, and markets plant Apprenticeship program. Also, leads building of the community brand and locating opportunities for talent pipe through youth programs, high schools, technical schools.
  • Supports ancillary plant projects as discussed between Plant Manager and Field HR Manager.
  • May support activities and projects within the corporate organization.
  • Responsible for handling employee relations activities.
  • Training and development for plant personnel
  • Works with management to communicate, train, coach and assist employees in an effort to maintain effective employee morale.
