The scope of this role providing Process Safety expertise includes leading and facilitating Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) across Suncor’s facilities. You will collaborate across different levels of the organization to enable and drive change.

Minimum Requirements:

  • 8 years of relevant experience in engineering, operations, and/or maintenance at an oil sands or refinery operation
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with APEGA
  • Knowledge and competency with the PHA methodologies
  • Proficient in using tools such as PHA-Pro, BowtieXP and Phast
  • Familiarity with PSM Standards such as OSHA 29 CFR 1910 & CSA z767
  • A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record

Responsibilities:

  • Provide advice and guidance on Process Safety elements – act as Subject Matter Expert.
  • Conduct Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA) and Bowtie analysis to help identify and mitigate potential hazards across the organization
  • Perform and interpret consequence analysis to drive consistent severity estimations.
  • Lead or support Loss of Primary Containment (LOPC) analysis and reporting to help reduce the potential for serious LOPC events across the organization
  • Participate in Process Safety technical networks

Location and other Key Details:

  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W., or out of our Suncor Base Plant Mine in Fort McMurray, Alberta.
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday.
  • This position requires travel to sites.
